I'm Merley Stevland, the double merle sweetheart. Hi! I'm Merley! I'm a blind and deaf double merle Australian Shepherd. Please follow me as I adventure through this wonderful life as a special needs dog.

I'm Merley Stevland and I want to share my story with you. I'm a blind and deaf Australian shepherd born 3/29/19. You probably wonder why I am the way I am and here's why.....

I'm what you call a double merle. Merle is the white marbling in a dog's coat that creates patches of color in a solid or piebald coat. It also creates blue or odd colored eyes, and can also affect skin pigment as well. When two merles are bred, each pup in the litter has a 25% chance of inheriting the gene from both parents. If this happens, pups can be born like me. We are usually white in color, some blind, some deaf, or like me...both blind and deaf. Double merle pups are usually euthanized because we are considered undesirable!!! Can you believe that??? Don't feel bad for me because I'm the result of bad breeding, instead, be happy because I have a family that thinks I'm perfect! My brother Elwyn is so silly! He loves to play ball, but not like me. He invented Circle Ball. It's very easy. You just grab a ball and run around in a circle!!
