On October 3, the LeTourneau University Amateur Radio Club (LUARC) welcomed Don Gamble from our Longview partner club, LETARC, for a hands-on workshop on building HF wire antennas.
Students measured and cut two 5-meter wire elements, connected them to a balun and coax feed line, and installed the antenna in a tree outside Glaske Labs. After carefully trimming the wires for resonance, students put their new antenna to work during the California and Collegiate QSO Parties.
The result? Real radio contacts across the country!
Next stop: Tyler State Park POTA next weekend, where students will put their newly built antenna to the test in the field.
Great example of how ECE students learn by building, testing, and communicating beyond the classroom.

Last week's ECE Academic Chapel featured Maestro Richard Lee, Music Director and Conductor of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra, who shared an inspiring presentation on the harmony of science, mathematics, and music.
Maestro Lee discussed his musical journey, the value of music as an essential part of the human experience, and the many connections between artistic creativity and engineering problem-solving. Students enjoyed hearing his perspectives and actively participated in a thoughtful Q&A session afterward.

At LETU ECE, we believe future engineers benefit from experiences beyond the traditional classroom. By engaging with the arts and music, students develop creativity, empathy, and broader perspectives that can inspire innovative ideas and shape the future of engineering.

Thank you, Maestro Lee, for visiting our campus and encouraging our students to think beyond disciplinary boundaries and pursue excellence through both technical knowledge and creative insight.

On September 23, ECE students had the opportunity to attend the IEEE Pre-Career Fair, where representatives from SonSet Solutions, L3Harris, Textron, and Collins Aerospace shared their missions, career opportunities, and ways students can get involved.

Through engaging presentations and one-on-one conversations, our students gained valuable insights into the engineering industry while building important professional communication and networking skills that will serve them throughout their careers.

We are grateful to our industry partners for investing in the next generation of engineers!

Senior Design is a standout feature of LeTourneau’s engineering program, bringing students from different engineering majors together to tackle real-world projects as a team.

Throughout the semester, students take initiative, solve problems, test ideas, and make design decisions as they work toward their final project.

The 2026–27 LeTourneau Rehabilitation Engineering Project (LETREP) team is already putting this approach into action. Last Monday, the LETREP mechanical subteam, led by ECE senior Alex Howe, used equipment and software from one of our physics labs to explore whether a force sensor could be used to measure a specific reflex in the arm.

The initial data from the test gave the team valuable insight into how to move forward with their design.

We’re excited to see how the LETREP project develops throughout the semester!

On September 17, LETU students had the opportunity to learn about the global impact of SIL Global during a special visit to campus.
Guest speakers Robert Clemenz, Linda Hughes, and Matthew Lee shared how SIL Global has been serving the world’s language communities since 1934.
SIL Global partners with minority language communities around the world to help them use their languages to know God, learn freely, and live with dignity.
For LETU Engineering students, this mission also creates opportunities to apply engineering and technology to real-world challenges.
Student interns can contribute to projects such as developing AI chatbots in different languages and creating technology that supports language communities around the world.
It was an inspiring opportunity to see how engineering, technology, and faith can come together to serve others and make a difference around the world.

On September 12, the LeTourneau Amateur Radio Club (LUARC) headed to Daingerfield State Park for Parks on the Air (POTA) with our partner club, the Longview East Texas Amateur Radio Club (LETARC).
Our students gained hands-on experience applying ECE concepts to assemble and mount a 25-foot HF monopole antenna, tune the system, and power up a sensitive radio in the field using multiple battery chemistries.
The team successfully made contacts with operators in Florida and Colorado—and even heard signals from Chicago, Mexico, and India!
LUARC provides students with opportunities to develop practical skills in radio communications, electronics, antennas, and wireless technology, while serving the community through amateur radio training and service.
The LUARC station is hosted in the Glaske Robotics Lab through a partnership with the LeTourneau ECE Department. Members come from across campus and the alumni community, including students interested in Aviation, Computer Science, and Engineering.

LeTourneau School of engineering and engineering Technology (SEET) welcomed Dr. Huaxiao “Adam” Yang, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of North Texas, for our SEET Graduate Seminar on August 28.

Dr. Yang shared his research on hPSC-derived organoids, vascularization, and artificial intelligence, including his work using organoid technology to develop advanced models of the human heart outside the body.

With an interdisciplinary background in Biological Science, Chemical Engineering, Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics, and Bioengineering, Dr. Yang offered our LETU SEET students a unique perspective on the intersection of biology, engineering, and AI.

His research demonstrates the exciting potential of these technologies to advance the future of medicine and biomedical engineering.
Thank you, Dr. Yang, for sharing your research and inspiring our undergraduate and graduate students.

On August 31, students in the Circuits and Measurements Lab put circuit theory into practice by building, testing, and measuring real electrical circuits. On September 7, they expanded their knowledge by using oscilloscopes to visually display the signal produced by a waveform generator.
This is one of the most fundamental hands-on courses in the LETU ECE curriculum. In their third semester, all ECE students take this lab alongside the 3-credit Electric Circuits lecture course, giving them the opportunity to connect theory with practical engineering experience.
Students work with industry-standard Keysight test and measurement equipment, used throughout many of our ECE laboratories, as well as the NI ELVIS platform. They learn to measure voltage, current, and resistance, use laboratory instruments, troubleshoot circuits, and understand how circuits respond under different conditions.
And we keep the experience personal. Each lab section is limited to a maximum of 7 students, allowing every student to work directly with the equipment and circuits—not simply watch a teammate perform the experiment.
These hands-on skills become especially valuable as students prepare for summer internships after their second year. By the time they enter the workforce, LETU ECE students have already developed practical experience with circuit analysis, measurement equipment, troubleshooting, and laboratory procedures.
At LETU ECE, we don’t just teach students how circuits work—we give them the opportunity to build, measure, test, and experience engineering for themselves.

On September 2, our University Physics Lab II students put their pendulum research into action!
Through a series of controlled experiments, students explored how amplitude, period, and pendulum length affect the motion of a swinging pendulum. Along the way, they gained hands-on experience with photogate sensors, data collection, and graphing technology—valuable skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
At LeTourneau University, learning doesn’t just happen on paper. Our students build, measure, experiment, analyze, and discover—developing both the knowledge and practical skills they need to succeed in engineering and technology.

Meet our newest ECE faculty member, Dr. Robin Kim!

A Spring Hill High School graduate in Longview, TX, Dr. Kim went on to earn his degree from Rice University in Houston, TX. His research interests include neuroengineering, biomedical instrumentation, semiconductor devices, and hands-on engineering education.

He’s excited to help ECE students turn what they learn in the classroom into real-world engineering experience—and, just as importantly, to grow in their faith and calling as engineers.

Welcome to the LeTourneau University ECE family, Dr. Kim! We’re excited to have you on the team and can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make in the lives of our students, faculty, and staff.
