Introducing the Aspen Center for Child Development at Hover Crossing!

For several years, we've explored ways to expand our top-rated Aspen Center for Child Development, a beloved program that has provided high-quality early childhood education to children from all economic backgrounds. While the timing and resources hadn't aligned in the past, an incredible opportunity recently presented itself—and we seized it.

In January, our Board of Directors unanimously approved taking on operational oversight of a second preschool focused on serving both children from low-income households and the general public. This new 3 classroom school will be located on-site at Longmont Housing Authority’s newest development: The Ascent at Hover Crossing.

The Ascent at Hover Crossing is the first of its kind in Longmont: a thoughtfully designed community that directly addresses two of the biggest barriers facing low- and moderate-income families, affordable housing and affordable childcare. These are often the two largest expenses for working families, and shortages in either can derail employment, child development, and overall stability.

By co-locating high-quality early childhood education services right within the residential site, this innovative model removes multiple barriers at once. It eliminates long commutes between home, childcare, and work; promotes family stability; supports children's healthy development; and enables parents to participate more fully in the workforce.

This integrated approach strengthens communities, boosts economic mobility, and maximizes the impact of public and philanthropic investments by tackling interconnected social determinants of health and opportunity in one location.

This new preschool, set to welcome children in September 2026, is far from solving the broader childcare crisis, but it is one meaningful, impactful step in the right direction for Longmont families.

While existing revenue streams will support much of the program, there remains a projected gap between income and expenses.
