Question of the day:
If a circle has a radius of five, what is the circumference?

Answer: 10π. Circumference = π(d), with d being diameter. The diameter of a circle is twice as long as the radius, so if the radius is 5, then circumference = 5(2) = 10. Then just throw a π at the end and you're done.

Question of the day:
Ms. Lewis plans to drive 900 miles to her vacation destination, driving an average of 50 miles per hour. How many miles per hour faster must she average, while driving, to reduce her total driving time by three hours?

Before looking at the answer, try to do it yourself.

First we must know how many hours it originally took Mr. Lewis. 900 miles/50 mph = 18 hours. The question wants us to figure out how fast he has to drive to go 900 miles in 15 hours of driving time, right? Because 15 is three less than 18. 900/15 = 60 mph so Ms. Lewis must drive 10 mph faster to reduce her total driving time by three hours.

Question of the day: What is 15.6 divided by .0039?
To do a problem like this, we need to get rid of the decimal points. We can see that .0039 has four numbers to the right of the decimal, right? So that means that if we are going to get rid of the decimal for .0039, then we have to do it for 15.6 also. We can see that there is only one number to the right of the decimal for 15.6. This means that we have to add a zero for each decimal place that is missing. In this case, that is three zero's. Our new fraction is 156,000/39, which equals 4,000. If you are confused, it just takes practice of seeing several examples of these types of problems. Reach out to me for a tutoring session today!
