Victory gardens were vegetable, fruit, and herb gardens planted at private residences and public parks in the United States during World War I and World War II. They were used along with Rationing Stamps and Cards to reduce pressure on the public food supply. Besides indirectly aiding the war effort, these gardens were also considered a civil "morale booster" in that gardeners could feel empowered

Present Day, NLB's newly formed Victory Garden is part of the Grow LA Victory Garden Initiative. Neighborhood gardeners and volunteers meet every Saturday morning at The District 9 Field Office: 6509 Gundry Ave, Long Beach CA 90805 from 9-10a with local Master Gardeners and learn about sustainability, how to grow better fruit, herbs and vegetables and spend time keeping the garden hearty and healthy. We harvest our bounty monthly and contribute it at the North Long Beach Crop Swap. This group is 100% run by volunteers. Any donations made are used for seeds, tools and future events at the Victory Garden.
