Hello everybody,
We're ecstatic to share that the ASLD and American Studies programs are collaborating and hosting the next Scholarly Intersections event on Friday, April 24th, 2026 from 11am-1pm! This year will be ASLD's 8th annual SI event, taking place at Horn Center, Room #100. Our topic will cover "Race and Hollywood" with Deaf/Disabled lens and our guest signers who will be starring our entertainingly informative show, Harold Foxx, a well-known actor/screenwriter/comedian, and Sophia Morales, a rising star and ASL Dubber.
We will explore the social context and dynamics that have influenced the media business and the use (or exploitation) of sign language in the film. The planned discussion points may cover the negotiations and interplay between ASL and English, presented on the screens or behind the scenes, and the racial tensions/microaggressions experienced in the media industry. This short presentation and panel discussion event will be moderated by Dr. Justin Gomer and myself (Dr. Rezenet Moges-Riedel). This event will have voice interpretations provided and no RSVP needed. Please see the flyer in the attachment and distribute with your students if you can.
Any questions, please email back or [email protected] .
Many thanks for your support!

Since itβs football Sunday and only a few Sundays before SuperBowl, so I am sharing this for those who may not know yet. Iβm definitely excited to see this performance in LSPR.
