Ron DeSantis signed a bill all but censoring q***r topics in schools and workplaces.

On top of the reviled ‘Don’t Say Gay‘ bill that blocks educators from discussing LGBT+ identities in K-12 schools, DeSantis signed the “Stop WOKE Act” on Friday (22 April) in Hialeah Gardens.

The bill, short for “Stop the Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees”, heavily restricts how workplaces, schools and colleges can teach about racism, homophobia and other systemic biases.

It bans anyone from discussing how people can be “inherently racist, sexist or oppressive” or that people can be responsible or should feel guilty for historic injustices against people on the same grounds.

Workers will now wield the power to file civil discrimination claims against an employer for discussing or running training sessions on Black history, LGBT+ issues and other injustices.

Within moments of it being signed into the books, a group of plaintiffs including a teacher and a professor filed a federal lawsuit against DeSantis, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.

They alleged that the law, HB 7, violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments. The complaint was filed Friday in US District Court in the Northern District of Florida.

Important update from the OC LGBT Center regarding :

We are saddened to share that the highly anticipated and supported Trans Pride OC that was going to take place this Saturday in-person -- will now be ramping up the VIRTUAL portion of the event. Unfortunately, our office was alerted of a violent threat this week that could impact the safety of attendees at the event. Safety is our utmost priority and as much as we had planned to make this event to be such an empowering and celebratory in-person gathering - we want to ensure everyone’s safety.

Our Trans Committee and staff had planned a joyous gathering and will continue to find ways to make this Saturday a prideful and community based moment virtually. We are also looking into a different date to come together and open up our Glam Closet as well as other festivities we had planned to go in-person.

We also want to take this moment to thank our Trans Committee members who have poured their passion and care for the community into this event, our wonderful Community Partners & Organizations that chose to join our Resource Fair and provide access to important resources/services, local Volunteers who jumped at the chance to support this event in-person, caring Sponsors who contributed to help facilitate this event, and of course we can’t forget the Performers, Panelists, and ALS Interpreters who also made it a priority to get involved and show up for this important occasion.

Stay tuned as we plan the in-person portion, we invite you to sign up to the link below (link in Bio too) for Trans Pride updates including a new date for Glam Closet:

We wanted to apologize to those of you who were looking forward to gathering in person for this celebration - for some of you -- your first Trans Pride. Please rest assured that we are committed to making this happen and assessing ways on how to do that to ensure your safety.

The COVID pandemic has been rough for many persons. This job fair notice for transgender and nonbinary persons is a little light in all the dark. If you are seeking an employment opportunity sign up.
