It’s time for Feature Friday! Today we are excited to showcase Ava as our teacher feature! She is a multi-instrumentalist, talented musician who is joyful, fun, and passionate about sharing her love of music with her students!!

We asked Ava some very important questions, and here is what she had to say!

1. What instrument(s) do you play?

I play violin, viola, piano, and voice. In the past, I have attempted to teach myself other instruments like the saxophone, cello, guitar, and various percussion instruments.

2. What are your three favorite bands / artists

As a composer, some of my favorite artists include The Beatles because of the versatility of their music, Howard Shore because his film music is so beautiful and well-done, and Fairuz/Rahbani Brothers because of how unique the instrumentals on Fairuz's songs are.

3 Do you have pets and what are their names?

I have two dogs named Pippa and Amelia.

4. Why do you love teaching/working at Cal Heights Music?

I love teaching because I love seeing my students succeed. I feel like teaching has developed me as a person, and I am thankful for the opportunities I have had to teach at Cal Heights Music

Our Mermaid and Music camp is in full swim oops swing, this week. We are having the best time exploring the magical music of the Caribbean! From reggae to calypso we are traveling from island to island and waving to our mermaid and ocean friends along the way! 🧜‍♀️🐟🦀🐙🏝🐬🪸🦈🐚

Leila is part of our awesome front desk team at Cal Heights Music! She is never without her warm smile and sunny vibes!! We asked her some super fun questions and here is what Leila had to say!

1. What instrument(s) do you play?

Bass guitar is my main instrument, I've been playing for around 20 years and actually play in a few local bands, but I also play guitar and mandolin.

2. What are your three favorite bands / artists

My three favorite bands are Pigeon Pit, Escape From The Zoo, and Nomeansno.

3. Do you have pets and what are their names? OR What’s your favorite animal and why?

I have one cat in my apartment named Dinky, she's actually my roommate's but we all take care of her.

6. Why do you love working at Cal Heights Music?

I love working here because everyone is so kind and welcoming, I'm surrounded by amazing people, the students, parents and the staff. I get to be around music all day, and I get to see how much everyone loves music and help more people start playing!

Smiles for miles as we starts Indie Band Camp today!!! Campers will be working together and learning two songs over the next few days! It’s amazing to see the progress!!!! Way to go indie band, day one was amazing!!

We had music adventure camp and ukulele camp, and both were Soooooo Much Fun!!!!!!!!!!!

Kid’s choir is on break for Summer and then we return in September for our spooky Halloween themed choir to kick off the new school year!

Guess what!? It’s Teacher Feature Friday!!! Our favorite day of the month!

Today the spotlight is on Jafet!! Jafet is an insanely talented multi-instrumentalist who always brings big smiles to the faces of everyone at CHM all day!!! We are so grateful for his amazing vibes, hilarious sense of humor and of course his musical skills!!!!

We asked Jafet a few questions and here is what he had to say….

What instrument(s) do you play?

I am a vocalist who has played piano, bass, ukulele, guitar, sax, bassoon, clarinet, and flute.

Favorite flavor of ice cream?

My controversial yet brave answer: mint and chip.

If you could time travel where (when) would you go?

I would travel to February 15, 1954 at Capitol Records to watch Chet Baker start recording his album Chet Baker Sings.

Why do you love teaching/working at Cal Heights Music?

I love working at Cal Heights Music because all my students are excited and willing to learn. My colleagues always have a smile on their face and are ready to help one another.

Being in a band is about so much more than music, it’s also about creating friendships, building confidence, learning teamwork- it is about endless FUN!!!! 🎶❤️🎸✨✌️☀️

Such a magical day! Our indie bands The Coyotes (ages 8-11) and The Howlers (ages 11-15) performed at to a packed house!! We are so proud of these students who worked so hard all year long and have excelled and grown so much as musicians!

Thanks to our amazing teachers who have helped and guided the indie bands this year!
