Diggin my new classroom layout! Today was a good Monday ❤️
My classroom is all ready to go for small group classes this fall! We are opening up a few classes on Sundays this school year! 🎹
It’s the fun time of year where I get to teach first piano lessons ever! M learned a LOT today! 🎹
My career is so beautiful. Today’s recitals went swimmingly and I am so proud of all of my wonderful students. ❤️
Every school year someone in our studio inevitably wins the unfortunate position of receiving the “Broken Bone” award. And somehow it’s always just before a performance!
This year, it’s O, but she is TITANIUM and still going to play at one of our performances this month with her good hand!
(I got to write music notes on her cast!)
If you’re out at beach streets downtown in Long Beach with your kiddos today, stop by and stomp on some floor pianos! We are at linden and first in front of the Hellada art gallery next to the carnival games!
“Miss Christina, can I write my own song today?”
…and she did just that! (And wrote lyrics!)
This young lady always arrives in a good mood at lessons ready to work, and goes ABOVE AND BEYOND in daily practicing. Congrats on graduating to a new book! 🎹
Thank you to my students and their families for making our winter holiday recitals “Merry and Bright”! Very proud of the performers and grateful tonight! 🎄 🎅🏻 🎹
How many of you have tried playing the piano backwards or upside down and what song did you play? 😂
(I used to try to play Für Elise backwards when I was a young student)
So excited to announce our winter holiday recital for 2022! Looking forward to seeing my students up on stage and celebrating all of their hard work this year 🎹
We had some more great costumes in studio yesterday! Harry (Nico), Dj marshmallow (Lucas), a police officer (Isaac), and a cute bat (Elayna)! Hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween!
We had a pokemon in studio today, but no pokeballs to catch her with!
Yet another completed book from yet another hard worker! Bravo, T! 👨🎓 🎹
Yet another completed primer book! M was excited to write her name in the back (and have me sign the certificate) and took a moment to enjoy comparing her handwriting from this year to last (when we wrote her name in the front of the book to get started!)
Amazing what a difference a year makes in both your handwriting AND piano.
I’m so excited to be starting the school year with so many students moving up a level ☺️
A little throwback to our “international make music day” piano party at : Dorothy absolutely rocking “A million Reasons” by
Can’t wait to do more of these in the next few months! ☺️
One of the greatest joys of my career is getting to watch the children in my studio grow from little teeny kids whose feet can’t touch the floor, into full fledged adults. I get to see them go through all stages of their childhood and become strong people with their own opinions and great lives ahead of them!
I cannot believe that Kyle is already off to college this summer- I’ve taught him since he was the little guy in this photo! Always so bitter sweet. We went from playing “the can can” to working on the Macdowell piano concerto (which we will be performing together in July if all goes well!)
Another completed purple book and proof that diligent practice and being inquisitive makes quick process! Congratulations, Samson! 💫
Good posture and body alignment is a very important piece of the puzzle when playing any musical instrument, including piano! But did you know it also assists with confidence?
Often, when we feel nervous or unsure, our first instinct is to shrink down and make ourselves very small- but this is the opposite of what we need to do to become great performance artists.
In our studio, we work on making it a habit to sit tall and have command over the keyboard! It is always a work in progress for every student, but I keep on them about it at every lesson, because consistency works.
Here is Emma, showing off her beautiful piano posture a few weeks ago!
🎹
88 days into 2022! Happy world piano day!
🎹
So exciting when a student graduates from a book! 👩🎓 🎹 Here is Katelyn showing off her fun stickers on level 1. She is a very diligent practicer- proof that playing daily makes a big difference in progress!
Beautiful sunset tonight! 🌅
Here's a little flashback to our Fall Virtual Recital in the "Mystical, Magical, Musical Castle!"

Today was such a productive day over here: In deluxe classes, we worked on note reading skills and keyboard geography by playing NoteBolt!
⚡️ 🎹
This fun musical board game is one I actually invented- It’s been a huge hit with students of all ages and levels, and it’ll be available to the public later this year!
We had a little furry guest join us as we played notespeed today! 🐻
Olivia, Cole, and Ozma wanted to learn “Feliz Navidad”- so we made our own version where each person got a little of the melody and I played a little harmony. This was after an hour of learning it for the first time and a few run throughs together. I’m impressed with how far they were able to go on this in only an hour, especially considering two of the three had not learned eighth notes yet! 🎉
Grateful doesn’t even begin to describe today. Our first recital in two years was so very special. Thank you to all of the wonderful people who made this possible ❤️❤️
Last day of costumes! A mummy (Oliver), a skeleton (Angela), Luigi (Samson), and Princess Daisy (Camilla)! Thanks for this great week everyone- looking forward to sharing the recital video in a couple of days once it is edited!
Today this punk rock princess got to meet a dragon (Preston), a knight (Katelyn), a princess (Wyatt), Anne Shirley (Dorothy) and Santa (Samantha)!
🎃
Wednesday Addams (aka Izzy)! One of my favorite characters ever! We of course played some of the “Addams Family” theme song today!
Belle (Naomi), looking so poised while learning the theme song from “Beauty and the beast” today 🌹 👸
Some spooky sightreading with Justin!
Somehow our rhythm cups game turned into both of these ladies being “Captain hook” and me being “Peter pan” (because I am wearing a bright green shirt today). Then it turned into a “sword” fight with a whole lot of giggling. Summer, amirite?
But really, it’s so cool to not only watch my students grow as young musicians, but forge friendships along the way! 🎹
I can’t even express how wonderful it is to be back fully in the studio and have a whole new set of sharp little minds coming in with questions and so ready to learn. This inquisitive fellow had his first lesson today and was so interested in the mechanics of how sound is made and what makes low sounds “low” and high sounds “high.” We opened up the hood and took a look underneath and learned a little bit about physics!
Not only did my students get taller this year, but for many, their “shooting stars” for our hundred piece challenge grew taller than them now! Peta’s chain grew from 5 to 33 this year! 🌠
As I sit in the studio this Friday afternoon and reflect upon this past school year, the only thing I keep coming back to is how proud of each student I am. They tackled things this year that would have sounded impossible in 2019.
I know the skills learned and the grit everyone exhibited this year will help shape the world in amazing new ways when these students are all grown up.
Miss Christina has been teaching piano lessons in Southern California since 2003. She has a BA in music from Chapman University, where she studied music composition and piano under Dr. Michael Martin, and viola under Robert Becker.
