The Association of Black Psychologists - ABPSI Western Region

The Association of Black Psychologists - ABPSI Western Region ABPsi's Western Region provides support to states west of Colorado and has 4 chapters. The Bay Area, Denver-Rocky Mountain, San Diego, and S. California.

The Association of Black Psychologists sees its mission and destiny as the liberation of the African Mind, empowerment of the African Character, and enlivenment and illumination of the African Spirit. Purpose of the Association
The Association is organized to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, including but not limited to:

promoting and advancing the profession of Africa

n Psychology
influencing and affecting social change; and
developing programs whereby psychologists of African descent (hereafter known as Black Psychologists) can assist in solving problems of Black communities and other ethnic groups. To accomplish these purposes, the Board of Directors (hereafter known as "the board") shall exercise the following specific functions:

establish a central organization of Black Psychologists;
develop funding sources for working capital, staff support, and educational programs;
seek funding for projects involving Black Psychologists, such projects to include, but not be limited to: Scholarly Journals, Training Programs, Recruitment of Students and Faculty and community Mental Health Care Programs; and
work with such organizations of behavioral scientists as are able to implement the purposes of The Association.

On Black Psychology in the Inland Empire from the IE ABPsi chapter President.

"Dear Inland Empire Community:

I am writing to invite you to our Juneteenth Celebration. Dr. Thomas Parham is the keynote speaker. The title of his talk is: “Honoring Our Past, Inspiring Our Future, Fostering Unity” We are hopeful that some of the members of the Inland Empire Community will join us to welcome him to the Inland Empire.

Dr. Parham's accomplishments include recent past President of California State University, Dominguez Hills, past President of the national Association of Black Psychologists, an unwavering commitment to the African American community as a licensed psychologist, and for more than 40 years he has serviced as a scholar, practitioner, and a higher education administrator (UC Irvine). His life reflects a dedication to excellence, advocacy, and liberation-centered work. His scholarship and leadership continue to provide an invaluable blueprint for addressing the unprecedented challenges impacting our liberty, wellness, and collective mental health.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the UCR Alumni Center, located at 3701 Canyon Crest Drive in Riverside. Refreshments will be provided.
