The Class of 2028 recently celebrated an important milestone: their final event as OJS College Access students! As juniors, they’ll move into our College Success Program, where they’ll begin the next phase of their journey—from researching colleges and writing applications to navigating financial aid and planning for life after high school. But one thing won’t change: they’ll always have the OJS community in their corner. 📚✨

🎒✨ Ready for High School!

As summer comes to an end, our students are getting ready to head back to school and we can hardly believe the new school year is already around the corner!

For some of our students, this time of year marks a BIG transition: moving from middle school to high school. To help our 8th graders prepare for this exciting next chapter, OJS hosted a volunteer-led “How to High School” series during the final two weeks of July.

Throughout the series, students had the opportunity to learn what to expect in high school, explore how to navigate this new environment, and start getting into the mindset of being a high school student. 📚

We’re so proud of our students for showing up, asking questions, and preparing themselves for this next step!

A huge THANK YOU to our incredible volunteer facilitator, Sofía Q., for leading such a thoughtful and engaging series and helping our students feel ready to take on high school! 💙

As an OJS mentor, you'll help a young person navigate high school, explore college and career opportunities, build confidence, and achieve their goals. Our program is flexible, and we provide all the training and ongoing support you need.

We're just days away from celebrating our Class 2026 and their accomplishments at our Scholars’ Day Celebration 🎓The program will be hosted by two outstanding members of the OJS Class of 2026, Sebastian Quintero and Michelle Calamaco👏 Throughout the program, we will be hearing from variety of honorees and speakers who have made a large impact on our community, including two outlined here: Dr. Jill Baker and Dr. Lupe Pasillas 🎉

May is Mental Health Awareness Month!

At OJS, we know that student success starts with student wellness. Balancing school, responsibilities and life challenges can feel overwhelming. OJS students do not have to navigate it alone.

Our Student Wellness Program offers:
✨ Free individual counseling
✨ Workshops and wellness resources
✨ Online mental health tools and support
✨ Remote and in-person sessions

Our team includes certified Mental Health First Aiders and compassionate MSW graduate students who serve as counselors who are dedicated to supporting students.

All sessions are private, supportive, and designed to meet students where they are. 💚

Career Week, Day 3! We started off at Studio One Eleven where they shared their lovely office space and talked with students about different career paths to working at an architecture company. We then moved over to Arktura where they spoke on mixing design and engineering into a finished product before giving a tour of their manufacturing facilities!

Thank you to both of these amazing companies for hosting us and ending our career week on a high note!
