💫 These 4 things just do not help when working on OCD

🌻Avoidance is just not helpful…it’s shoving down feelings and situations so that you do not have more anxious feelings. Learning to tolerate situations and the anxiety they create is the way out.

🌻Compulsions…I know they are hard to resist…but you have to understand that they reinforce your OCD. Try resisting the ones that do not bother you quite as much. Tolerate how that feels and do it again.

🌻Seeking reassurance is one of those compulsions that only brings up 100 more doubts. Listen to yourself, check yourself for the answers. Tell the people around you to not give you reassurance anymore.

🌻Giving up on CBT and ERP because it didn’t work for you…but there are reasons why it didn’t work and you. Need someone trained to help you through it. They are so important…do not give up, get a new teacher.

Look, all of this is easier said than done, and a social media post is not meant to heal your OCD, but it can be healed with proper guidance. 🧡

💫I realize that I haven’t formally introduced myself

🙋🏼‍♀️I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) specializing in OCD..and I’m pretty darn good at what I do! 😀

☀️After over 8 years working with OCD, I realized I was on to something and wanted to find a way to help more people using the exact same formula that has transformed the lives of hundreds of people struggling with OCD…
👉🏻so I started a coaching program where I can help even more people -The OCD Collaborative.
Even if you have had treatment before, this will work for you. It’s a collaborating between us using proven techniques.

💫Living with OCD is hard!

🥰 I see you out there struggling:

🫶🏼You feel trapped by your obsessions and compulsions.
🫶🏼 Even the little things take time like getting out of the house or the car, or the bathroom
🫶🏼 People don’t really understand what you are going through, they can’t relate
🫶🏼You are scared that this will never, ever go away
🫶🏼OCD can be so isolating and lonely.

🙋🏼‍♀️ I want you to know, that you CAN absolutely break free from OCD.

🪷 Work with someone that specializes in OCD so you can learn CBT and ERP…because it works!
🌻Group settings or forums validate and normalize your experience so you don’t feel so alone
🪷Even just feeling a little in control of your OCD can bring massive amounts of hope
🌻 You can have the life you want, do the things you want with the people you want, without fear.

🌸When working on OCD, you should be learning CBT and ERP with someone that specializes in OCD…
💕but the one thing that is a game changer for my clients is self compassion!
🌺 this is being kind to yourself DESPITE the negative self talk that you have about yourself and because you are dealing with OCD
💕I promise you this is a game changer! I have seen more growth in clients with this than almost anything else.

🤯It can be incredibly frustrating to deal with these 2.. OCD tricks us in to believing there is safety in certainty, but in reality, it’s impossible to eliminate all uncertainty. With the right help, you can learn to tolerate and even embrace uncertainty to some extent. 😳. Getting comfortable with discomfort is another key aspect of managing OCD, but it’s definitely not easy. 🙋🏼‍♀️with the right help you can nail both of these! - Let’s Collaborate.
