Meet our Graduate Business alumna – Ashwitha Reddy Chinnamail, from the Accelerated MBA program!

Q. How did your post-graduate education at CSULB help you prepare for your current career?

A. Doing my MBA at CSULB likely equipped me with a well-rounded skill set and knowledge base that can contribute to my success as a co-founder of Level App. The combination of business strategy, financial management, marketing, leadership, networking, and problem-solving skills obtained through my MBA program helped me navigate the challenges and capitalize on the opportunities in the Ed-tech sector.

Q. What advice would you give current students or recent graduates interested in pursuing your professional field?

A. For all those who're looking forward to pursue being an entrepreneur, I would tell them that you're leaving a 9-5 job and taking up a 24*7 role, this takes a lot of passion, continuous learning and the courage to embrace failure and resilience. Before diving into entrepreneurship, come with a validated futuristic idea, solid business plan, build a strong network, don't hesitate to seek mentorship, emphasize the importance of customer focus and embrace resourcefulness. Once you start the journey only key would be ex*****on, there might thousand ideas without proper ex*****on everything would be penniless.

Q. Why do you enjoy working in this position, company, and/or industry?

A. Firstly being an entrepreneur is my childhood dream and being passionate about connecting people for education/learning made me be here as an entrepreneur and there by a serial entrepreneur today. Any idea that I'm taking up today gives me a lot of power to impact the industry in a positive way and to contribute to the industry that is something I thoroughly enjoy. Being in a position where I can provide employment directly/indirectly to lot of people and supporting their families with the employment gives a lot of joy to work more and more, and employ more people. Meet our Graduate Business alumnus – Michael T Elmore, from the MS Finance program!

Q. How did your post-graduate education at CSULB help you prepare for your current career?

A. Exposure to more complex financial analysis combined with my "big four" CPA skills and undergraduate accounting degree at CSULB in 1982. Working full time while going to graduate school at night will make you strong.

Q. What advice would you give current students or recent graduates interested in pursuing your professional field?

A. Accounting provides a good fundamental background for any business pursuit as does a graduate degree. Commercial real estate is a dynamic industry with many different career paths depending on an individual's tolerance for risk. I chose a relatively high risk career and was on commission for 35 years. This provided significant financial, flexibility and independence rewards.

Q. Why do you enjoy working in this position, company, and/or industry?

A. Northmarq Capital is the largest company that is privately held in the capital markets segment of the commercial real estate ("CRE") industry. They treat employees very well and I worked for them for 30 years both producing and managing the LA and OC operations. I was the broker of record for all of our commissioned employees in the state of California. CRE allows for significant income opportunities due to inefficiencies that have not been successfully standardized by technology. Also, being on commission allows for greater job and career security than a typical corporate career - counter intuitive - if you area high level performer.

Q. Why do you enjoy working in this position, company, and/or industry?

A. I love helping to create and bring a product to market that is helpful and integrated into their everyday lives, making it better. It's really fulfilling to walk into a major retail store and see your brand's product on the shelf and know you and your team were critical to making it happen.

Meet our Graduate Business alumna – Janeen Marquardt, from the Evening MBA program!

Q. How did your post-graduate education at CSULB help you prepare for your current career?

A. CSULB's MBA program gave me the tools I needed to succeed in a corporate business environment.

The Entrepreneurship focus prepared me for the unexpected boom in High-Tech start-up companies that I somehow found myself in the middle of in the San Francisco Bay Area at just the right time in the years following my graduation. This has all led me somewhat organically to my current career in software consulting.

Q. What advice would you give current students or recent graduates interested in pursuing your professional field?

A. Having a solid understanding of business is key. It doesn't matter at the end of the day what the product or service is, you really have to know the basics and from there, everything is just learning the details.

Be hungry for continuous learning. This should not stop because you got your degree, keep pushing forward with professional certifications, ongoing learning.

And always try to give back - mentor students at CSULB, or new entrants into your industry. If you help people to come up and succeed after you, it will help you to move up the ranks and know that there are always people you can trust on your team.

Q. Why do you enjoy working in this position, company, and/or industry?

High tech is fascinating, especially now as we are on the cusp of the latest revolution and the words on everyone's mind and lips- machine learning, AI, etc. The job opportunities in this area are going to continue to be immense. Educate yourself on the tools and how they can be used to support business, and you will always be sought after for the most interesting career opportunities.

Meet our Graduate Business alumnus – Haneesh Marella, from the MS in Supply Chain Management program!

Q. How did your post-graduate education at CSULB help you prepare for your current career?

A. CSULB provided me with an opportunity to expand my knowledge across areas of business operations and leadership, and enabled me to approach problems with a systematic and evidence-based mindset.

Q. What advice would you give current students or recent graduates interested in pursuing your professional field?

A. Be curious. Curiosity will always motivate and push you to learn what's out there in the real world, explore various methods, and implement what's best for you. This applies to any field you'd like to enter.

Specific to analytics, I'd recommend first identifying your industry of interest. The industry defines the data you'd work with, which is essential to be successful, as understanding the data is very important to support analytics use cases. Apart from that, it would be beneficial to learn the technical architectures of the latest analytical tools, technologies and applications used in that industry, which will give you the necessary advantage to drive projects and lead teams.

Q. Why do you enjoy working in this position, company, and/or industry?

A. As a Senior Product Manager working at the Fortune 500 utility company Entergy, I have the opportunity to lead the building of advanced analytics products, working with the best and the brightest team members and the latest tools and technologies in the advanced analytics space.

This opportunity allows me to support Entergy operations to be more efficient using data-driven decisions that help the community ultimately, which at the end of the day, is what makes me get excited to go to work.
