We are thrilled to announce that Newcomb Academy will be hosting a STEAM Fair for all TK-8 students, thanks to the incredible efforts of staff, parent volunteers from the Newcomb Academy PTSA, and Newcomb Academy Foundation. This exciting event is an opportunity for students to explore, create, and showcase their artistic and scientific curiosity! The artistic portion of the event will feature artists who submitted projects in October for the district PTA Refelctions Art program along with student art from classroom portfolios. The following deadlines and information is ONLY for the science portion of the event.

🎤 Project Presentations: March 10 – March 13 during school hours
🎉 Project Display: Spartan Spring STEAM Event, Friday, March 14

Are you ready to rock at this year’s show? The Newcomb TK-8th Talent Show will be held on Friday, February 28 at 5pm.

Who can audition: Any TK-8th student! Grab a friend, get a group, or go solo!
What talent to showcase: You name it! Singing (no lip-sync), dance, skits, musical instruments, special talents and skills… let’s see what you’ve got!
When to audition: This year, we will accept auditions *via email* instead of in person. Submit a 1-minute video of your talent to [email protected] by January 20th at 5pm; no exceptions
IMPORTANT parent info: You are responsible for cutting or trimming any music. All acts must be under 3 minutes long on show night. Any music needed must be able to be downloaded onto iTunes or an audio file played on a computer or iPad.

Please note that auditions are only to confirm the appropriateness of the talent act! Everyone who wants to participate is allowed so long as the content is appropriate for all ages. Thank you!

Join us for Newcomb Academy PTSA 14th Annual Run Like It’s Recess 5k, 1k, Toddler Dash on Sunday, January 26, 2025. Start the New Year off right with friends and family in this PTSA-sponsored event. There will be medals, t-shirts, activities, music, prizes, food, and fun. This event takes place off campus at El Dorado Park. The first event starts at 9 am.

It is $20 for Newcomb students, including a school-approved drifit t-shirt and medal.

Here’s what has been happening in the garden with Ms. Ammie and Ground Education: 
 
-TK learned the health benefits of eating the colors of the rainbow. -Ms. Rodriguez’s class walked the nature trail practicing walking in a line and balance. 
 
-Mr. Fernandez, Ms. Perez and Mr. Tritz’s classes used their senses in the garden.  
 
-Kinder classes sorted organic and inorganic items. They learned about how worms are decomposers, and they had hands on worm observation. 
 
-Fifth grade explored the force of gravity. Students cut apples into pieces and used toothpicks to connect them together.  
 
-Fourth grade harvested the lettuce they planted earlier in the school year and had a Salad Party. They also talked about food insecurity and ways we can reduce food waste.

Thank you to our Newcomb Academy community for your generous donations to the annual Boys and Girls Club Joy Drive and Adopt-a-Family. If you’d still like to spread joy, we will be collecting new unwrapped gifts at the Ohana Winterfest this Saturday. Your donation will go to the Bethune Transitional Center supporting LBUSD students experiencing homelessness.
