Thank you for the all of the love and support for the past 20 years. Khmer Arts Academy will continue to live on in our hearts. We will never lose the essence of the organization. As of April 1, 2022, we are now operating as Cambodian-American Performing Arts (CAPA).

Love,
The Board of Directors

Cambodian American Performing Arts (CAPA), formerly known as Khmer Arts Academy, is based in Long Beach, CA to provide community-based workshops focused on preserving Cambodian culture through the practice and instruction of Cambodian Classical Dance. CAPA serves the Cambodian American community to foster, including but not limited to, youth and personal development through the learning and training of dance fundamentals and the dance repertoire, with the baseline understanding, appreciation, and practice of Cambodian cultural traditions.

Years ago, we received the opportunity of a lifetime! We were invited to Walt Disney’s Animation Studios to teach the artists and production team everything we knew and love about Cambodian dance and mythology. We shared with them stories and demonstrated movements and gestures that were passed down to us by our teachers. We hope that you saw the gems from our beautiful and rich Khmer history. We hope that ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ made you feel seen and a sense of strength and pride. After our presentation, we were gifted by this beautiful sketch by one of the co-directors, Paul Briggs.

Watch in theaters or on Disney Plus now!

Join us and
for a virtual Southeast Asia Day!

Mark your calendar for Saturday October 10th, 10am-3:30pm ☑️ We will be opening the festival at 10am with a beautiful blessing dance by Soriyah Sam. Please note that the Aquarium is being very safe with their Covid-19 safety protocols and will be requiring all performers to wear masks. We are in no way trying to disrespect our art, but instead are trying to show our beauty and resilience during these times. 🙏🏼💕
