Department Description: The Isabel Patterson Child Development Center's facility and staff provide quality child development services which enable student parents to attend classes at the university. The Center offers children an experience that facilitates their growth, learning, and creativity.
Appointment Dates: This position will be a 12 month appointment until July. Effective August 2016 the appointment will be adjusted to an 11/12 pay plan with July off starting July 2017.
Time Base/Hours/Units per Week: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
Position Description: The Child Development Center Infant and Toddler Teacher is responsible for child supervision and guidance and for the planning, preparation, and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum for 12-24 children per semester. The teacher prepares the children's rooms keeping within the established philosophy and goals of the CDC. Carries out Desired Results Developmental Profiles for each child and develops individual and group plans. the teacher coordinates the program, supervises student assistants, and reports to parents in the Assistant Director's absence. May open or close the facility as dictated by circumstances.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of planning, implementing and evaluating developmentally appropriate curriculum for children ages 18 months- 3 years and/or 3 years - 5 years of age. Current involvement in professional organizations related to young children and their families. Ability to supervise staff and student teachers. Knowledge of and ability to adhere to all University policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience: Equivalent to six months of related experience working with children required. Three units of infant development. Blood borne Pathogen Training.

Position Summary
Under general supervision of the Assistant Director, the Head Teacher plans and implements a developmental program designed to develop a range of social, cognitive, and motor skills for individual and groups of children, within the indoor and outdoor play areas of the Isabel Patterson Child Development Center. Observes and assesses individual and group learning and play experiences to insure best practice and an anti-bias curriculum in accordance with the IPCDC philosophy and goals and National Association for the Education of Young Children criteria. Develops and maintains indoor and outdoor environments that adhere to Environmental Rating Scale criteria. Implements curriculum activities in accordance with the IPCDC philosophy and an understanding of Reggio-inspired theory and practice. Monitors and documents the progress of children through observation, photographs and written assessment using the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDPc) system including summary reports and portfolios. Establishes and maintains a strong, two-way relationship with parents of children enrolled. Holds parent conferences. Supervises and trains student employees, interns and classroom volunteers. May take the place of teachers and student employees in their absence. Participates in fundraising and other IPCDC events. May be required to open or close the facility as dictated by circumstances.
