5 Family-Friendly Adventures to Have in Colorado
1. Camp at Rocky Mountain National Park’s Glacier Basin Campground. (Camping in the park automatically gets you entry to the park.) Hike the Emerald Lake Trail, a 3.3-mile out-and-back trek that takes you to three lakes—Nymph Lake, Dream Lake, and Emerald Lake.
2. Book a private rock-climbing tour in the Garden of the Gods with Front Range Climbing Company (Front Range Climbing Co.). This is an awesome experience that’ll be tailored to your family!
3. Stay at The Ranch at Emerald Valley (The Broadmoor)—an exceptional experience for families looking to spend quality time together. Enjoy onsite activities like horseback riding, mountain biking, and archery. Play lawn games, soak in a hot tub, and enjoy the good food!
4.Take the Pikes Peak Cog Railway (Pikes Peak Cog Railway) from Manitou Springs up to the summit of one of Colorado’s most famous 14ers. Explore at the top before the train takes you back down. (Get donuts at the summit and dress warmly!)
5. Visit Mesa Verde National Park to see cliff dwellings built by Ancestral Puebloans. Book an NPS-led tour of the Cliff Palace for the best up-close look. If your family is game for an adventure, book a tour of the Balcony House, too. The Balcony House tour requires climbing a 32-foot ladder, crawling through narrow tunnel, and more. Book tours at Recreation.gov.
