Why should we let children climb up the slide?
Children are seeking risk and challenge in their play. Climbing up the slide allows them to feel powerful as they scale it, and most importantly, it’s fun. This kind of healthy adventure is often part of imaginative play. As children climb, they test their strength, discover their limits, and build balance and spatial awareness. They also develop social awareness and consideration as they learn to navigate shared spaces with others.

“Enjoying a book is an invaluable gift. The Olive room slows down multiple times in the day to read all kinds of books. There is magic in watching a child engage in a book and retelling the story to each other. Their eyes light up and the pages transport them to different worlds. The joy of reading is an essential journey of discovery, growth and empathy.” -Vanessa Sanchez, Olive Room Educator

She was reading to herself at nap, then to me when she realized I was next to her, “Doggie do three woofs! The piggy is running away from the doggie. It’s like my doggie, he’ll bark at me when I run away from him.”- Dawn Velez, Little Owl Holistic Educator
