This Fall 2026, enroll in ITAL 454/554: Italian Cinema. 
 
In this course, you will have the opportunity to watch the most significant films in Italian cinema and learn about the directors and movements that helped shape them. 
 
It will take place in-person on Mondays from 5:00 to 8:50pm and the units can be applied towards the Italian minor or major. The class is taught in English, so no Italian required!

You are invited to an in-person screening of the short film Il Moro – The Moor! It recounts the untold story of Alessandro de’ Medici, the first Duke of Florence in 1530 and the first man of African descent to become a head of state in Renaissance Europe. While unveiling a true story from the past, the film aims to speak loudly of the situations that Black Europeans are still experiencing today and to celebrate today’s Afro-European community in the history of the continent.

Along with the screening, there will be a virtual Q&A with the director, Daphne di Cinto. It will take place on Monday, April 27th at 10:00am in AS-384.

­¡Hola! My name is Alexandra Román Irizarry. This semester I am teaching SPAN 423 Introduction to Spanish Linguistics in the RGR Department. At the same time, I am finishing up my dissertation on Spanish Heritage speakers in Southern California and am in need of recruiting more participants from this background. The flyer contains a description of my study along with the eligibility requirements. The study in itself lasts ~90 minutes and participants will be compensated with $30 USD.  All tasks will be completed online and the study is open to anyone (not just students) as long as they meet the eligibility criteria. Professor High is a dedicated educator and accomplished researcher. If you’ve had the privilege of taking a course with him, you’ve gotten to experience this first-hand like some of his current and former students who attended to celebrate him!

We are excited to share a brand-new offering for Fall 2026: SPAN 301 – Creative Writing in Spanish.
 
This course invites students of all levels to explore their creativity and learn all the nuts and bolts of literature through writing in Spanish. Students will have the opportunity to read and really comprehend literary masterpieces while they create their own, meet writers, publish their own stories, visit the LeaLA Spanish Literary Fair, and participate in literary contests.
 
The course counts toward the Spanish major or minor. It will meet on Mondays from 5:00 to 7:45 pm. The prerequisite is SPAN 300 or permission of the instructor.
