Due to the potential impact of Hurricane Isaias, The University of Southern Mississippi will close all research and teaching sites along the Gulf Coast, including the Gulf Park campus, on Friday, Oct. 9.

Southern Miss Gulf Park offers the Coastal Pathways Scholarship, a $5,000 annual award for transfer students from MGCCC and PRCC in select majors, such as secondary education.

Through this program, students gain classroom experience through fieldwork, receive personalized mentorship, and complete a year-long teacher residency, preparing them to teach in the communities they already know and love.

Southern Miss graduate research assistant Kirsten Bauer recently shared her research on an international stage at the Fisheries Society of the British Isles 2026 Annual Symposium.

There, she presented her thesis research on cownose ray movement in the north-central Gulf, sharing her findings with fisheries scientists from around the world.

The Blue Economy is expanding, and Southern Miss is investing in technical leaders to drive its future.

Backed by a five year grant, the Coastal Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Scholarship will cover tuition for a Master of Business Administration degree for professionals with an engineering-related degree or engineering-related work experience.

Designed to bridge technical expertise with business leadership, this opportunity equips innovators to make a difference across the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Southern Miss Gulf Blue and the U.S. Navy are partnering to connect Gulf Coast businesses, universities, and researchers with Naval Oceanography, creating new opportunities to develop and put innovative technologies to work.

The five-year agreement with the Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command will help Gulf Blue connect local innovators with Navy experts and research needs, as well as opportunities to license technology and work together on research.

The partnership will also support STEM outreach, mentorship, and workforce development, helping build the next generation of talent in ocean science and maritime technology.
