According to National Geographic Kids, Green was finally introduced to St. Patrick’s Day festivities in the 18th century, when the shamrock (which is, of course, green) became a national symbol. Because of the shamrock’s popularity and Ireland’s landscape, the color stuck to the holiday.

Cultural burning is an Indigenous practice of using controlled fires as a method of restoration. Fire is used as a tool to better manage natural resources. Using this method helps to create a diverse habitat, keep wilderness healthy, keep future fires low and manageable, improve soil quality, regenerate certain plant species, and overall, keep our resources healthy.

A "superbloom" is an explosion of wildflowers that sprouts from dormant seeds after a good rain season. Will California see a superbloom this Spring? In an article by Alejandra Borunda for National Geographic, she writes that the stage for one has certainly been set, after California saw an overabundance of rain this winter. Climate change, invasive species, land development, among many other tragedies have made the occurrence of superblooms rare; please be respectful, and tread carefully amongst the flowers!
