Did you know December 6th is St. Nicholas Day? This is a day of celebration of the beloved fourth-century bishop, from Myra (now modern day Turkey). Known for his compassion and generosity to poor and children, St. Nicholas Day honors the bishop's charitable acts of secretly leaving gifts for those in need. Sound familiar? Our modern tradition of leaving shoes or hanging stockings by the fire evolved from this famous legend and he even inspired our Santa Claus. In Austria, on the eve of St. Nicholas Day, families set out their shoes for St. Nicholas to leave candies, oranges and a small toy.

Join us at the Schweiger Ranch Austrian Christmas on December 6th from 11am to 3pm as we celebrate this and other Austrian Christmas traditions.

May St. Nicholas's legacy inspire us to give freely, love deeply, and lift each other up this holiday season.

Wishing everyone a joyful start to the Advent season!

Today, November 30, 2025, marks the beginning of this special time of warmth, hope, and anticipation.

In Austria and across the world, families will light the first candle on their Advent wreaths, one for each Sunday leading up to Christmas. Each gentle glow reminds us of the growing excitement as Christmas Eve draws near.

The word Advent comes from the Latin ad ve**re, meaning “to come.” It beautifully reflects the spirit of anticipation that fills these weeks—a sense of wonder for what lies ahead during the most magical time of the year.

Get ready to light your wreaths, open your Advent calendars, and welcome the season with open hearts!
