Day 5! Visit the school

Familiarity reduces anxiety, so visiting the preschool and meeting the teacher can help your child feel more secure before the first day by making the classroom feel friendlier and less unknown. Talk through what a typical day might look like and practice a simple goodbye routine (hug, high-five, “See you after snack”) so separation feels predictable and quick. Use positive, calm language about school and avoid framing it as something scary or as a test of bravery. The more your child can picture the environment and the people, the easier it is to feel safe stepping into it.

Part 4🎒 This Week We Are Talking About the Top 5 Things to Prepare Your Child for Preschool

Today we will focus on reading together daily.

Day 4. Reading together daily

Daily reading supports many of the skills preschool relies on, including listening, attention, language development, and early literacy. Choose books with engaging pictures and predictable patterns to help your child follow along and participate. Keep sessions short and positive, especially for younger preschoolers. Most importantly, treat reading as a warm bonding ritual so your child connects books with comfort and curiosity.

Part 3🎒 This Week We Are Talking About the Top 5 Things to Prepare Your Child for Preschool

Today we will focus on encouraging independence.

Day 3. Encouraging Independence

Independence at preschool isn’t about doing everything alone—it’s about trying, problem-solving, and asking for help appropriately. Practice self-help skills your child will use daily, such as using the bathroom, pulling pants up and down, and washing hands thoroughly. Teach simple steps for getting ready: putting on shoes, attempting zippers, and placing items back in a backpack. Make cleanup a normal part of play by using clear bins and a quick routine like “toys away before the next activity.” Offer choices within boundaries (two outfits, two snack options) so your child builds decision-making skills without feeling overwhelmed. Celebrate effort with specific praise—“You tried your shoes by yourself”—to reinforce confidence rather than perfection. The more capable your child feels with small tasks, the more comfortable they’ll be in a busy classroom setting.

✌🏼Part 2 🎒 This Week We Are Talking About the Top 5 Things to Prepare Your Child for Preschool

Today we will focus on practicing social skills.

Day 2. Practicing Social Skills

Preschool is often a child’s first regular experience in a group, so practicing social basics can make a big difference. Help your child learn to share and take turns by playing simple games that require waiting and switching roles. Model and coach friendly phrases like “Can I have a turn?” “Please stop,” and “I’m still using that,” so they have words ready in the moment. Talk about feelings in everyday situations—naming emotions and offering options such as taking deep breaths or asking for help.

☝️Part 1 🎒 This Week We Are TalkingAbout the Top 5 Things to Prepare Your Child for Preschool

Today we will focus on establishing routines.

Day 1. Establish a Routine

Preschool runs on a predictable rhythm, and children tend to thrive when their days feel consistent. Start by aligning sleep with school expectations by setting a regular bedtime and wake-up time. Create a simple morning routine (wake up, bathroom, get dressed, breakfast, brush teeth) so your child practices moving through steps in order. Keep mealtimes consistent, and offer snacks at set times to reduce “all-day grazing” that can make school hunger cues confusing. A visual routine chart with a few pictures can also help your child anticipate what comes next and feel more in control.

🎒 Top 5 Things to Prepare Your Child for Preschool

Starting preschool is a big milestone—for children and caregivers alike. A little preparation helps your child feel safe, capable, and ready to participate in new routines and group activities. When children know what to expect, they’re more likely to separate more easily and engage with teachers and peers. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s building confidence through small, steady practice at home.
