Weather permitting, when the final out is recorded tomorrow, our field will have hosted 23 Perfect Game tournament games in just six days.
Most people see the games. What they don’t always see are the hours spent before the first pitch and after the last out—dragging the field, painting lines, preparing the mound, maintaining the facility, running the scoreboard, providing music and game announcements, and handling the countless details that help create a first-class ballpark experience.
I want to thank our coaching staff for their willingness to serve. By the end of the tournament, Coach Smith and I will have spent more than 70 hours at the ballpark this week, and the rest of our staff has sacrificed their time as well. Not because anyone is looking for recognition, but because we believe in doing things the right way and providing the best experience possible for every team that comes through Grayson.
The teams playing here this week have come from all across Georgia and from states throughout the country. We want them to leave with a positive impression of Grayson Baseball, Grayson High School, and our community.
Most importantly, every game played and every hour invested helps support the young men in our baseball program. This tournament is a direct fundraiser for our players, and our coaches are proud to give their time to help create opportunities for them. In fact, many of the improvements our players enjoy today have been made possible through fundraising efforts like these tournaments—including our turf batter’s boxes, the concrete walkway leading to the batting cages, new uniforms, and numerous other facility and program enhancements over the years.
It has also been a joy to work alongside former Rams who are now helping make these events successful. Class of 2022 graduate Ryan Mahoney has done an outstanding job handling DiamondKast duties, and Class of 2023 graduate Tyler Phillips has been serving as a Perfect Game Field Coordinator. Seeing former players come back and contribute to the game and to young athletes is one of the many rewards of coaching.
To our coaching staff—thank you for your commitment, your sacrifice, and your servant hearts. To our baseball families—thank you for trusting us with your sons. And to everyone who has helped make this week a success, we are grateful.
