SOUTHERN’S SIGMA KAPPA DELTA CHAPTER EARNS IVY CHAPTER STATUS!
We are incredibly proud to announce that the Sigma Kappa Delta chapter at Southern WV Community & Technical College has officially been named an Ivy Chapter!

What is Sigma Kappa Delta? Sigma Kappa Delta is the national English honor society for two-year colleges, recognizing students who demonstrate excellence in English, writing, literature, communication, and the humanities. The organization provides opportunities for students to develop their academic and leadership skills while participating in literary and cultural activities. As a global organization, Sigma Kappa Delta has chapters at community and technical colleges across the country and beyond.

Earning Ivy Chapter status is a major accomplishment. Chapters must complete a series of requirements and demonstrate excellence throughout the academic year to achieve this distinction.

By reaching Ivy Chapter status, Southern’s chapter has earned recognition as one of the top chapters in Sigma Kappa Delta worldwide.

Sigma Kappa Delta is a global organization, making this accomplishment a tremendous honor for our students, faculty, and the entire Southern community.

This achievement places Southern WV Community & Technical College in the national and global spotlight and reflects the hard work, dedication, and academic excellence of our students and chapter advisors.

Former Southern WV Community & Technical College Interim President Dr. Corley Dennison Releases Second Novel, Intruders in the Meadow

LOGAN, W.Va. — Former Southern WV Community & Technical College Interim President Dr. Corley Dennison has released his second novel, Intruders in the Meadow, a suspenseful story of political intrigue, media attention, community tensions, and tragedy set in the fictional West Virginia town of North Thacker.

Published by Fulton Books, Intruders in the Meadow transports readers to 1976, the nation's Bicentennial year, where an unusual event in a meadow near North Thacker suddenly thrusts the small Appalachian community into the national spotlight.

Hundreds of reporters descend on the town, bringing intense media scrutiny to a community unaccustomed to being the center of attention. As residents become increasingly frustrated with how their town and its people are portrayed by the national media, resentment grows.

A local candidate for mayor sees an opportunity to capitalize on that frustration and uses the growing anger to bolster his struggling political campaign. As tensions escalate, the divide between the community, the media, and those seeking political advantage becomes increasingly dangerous—and ultimately, tragedy strikes.

Fulton Books describes the novel as a story of “political intrigue, culture shock, and murder,” exploring both the best and worst of human instincts.

“Intruders in the Meadow” is Dennison's second novel and continues his interest in storytelling and in Appalachian people and places. While North Thacker is fictional, the setting and themes will be familiar to many readers who have experienced life in a small West Virginia community.

The novel also explores issues that remain relevant today, including the relationship between small communities and the national media, political opportunism, public perception, and the consequences that can arise when a community suddenly finds itself under a microscope.

Intruders in the Meadow was published in 2026 by Fulton Books and is available in paperback and digital editions. The paperback edition is 274 pages.
