The Rural Health Association of Utah recently had a session in their Rural Resource Webinar Series. This session focused on the Utah Department of Health and Human Services' HEAL (Healthy Environment Active Living) team.
The HEAL team discussed the National Diabetes Prevention Program and blood pressure loaner programs available in Utah.
In addition to the HEAL team, a second presenter, Canary Speech, presented about their technology software that can listen to speech markers to identify patterns linked to health. What an interesting presentation!
To watch or listen to the recording, go to https://www.rhau.org/rhau-webinar-series. You can also check out upcoming webinars, with the next scheduled for June 4!

To wrap up our graduate highlights, we want to share a highlight on Allison Jones. Allison graduated last month with a Master of Public Health in Nutrition. For her Applied Practice Experience, she developed a cookbook for SNAC, USU’s student food pantry, along with virtual cooking demonstrations to support nutrition education. She especially valued courses taught by Casey Coombs, whose engaging teaching style made online learning enriching and memorable. Allison now plans to work in a role as a dietitian within a diabetes clinic, supporting her community through nutrition education. Great work, Allison!

Catherine May Fish just graduated with a Master of Public Health in Nutrition. For her Applied Practice Experience, she conducted focus groups on nutrition education offered through SNAC (USU’s student food pantry), compiling the data into an impact report and presenting a poster at UAND to inform future programming. Her favorite course was Global Public Health. Catherine now plans to prepare for the RD exam and pursue community nutrition work supporting individuals in substance abuse recovery. Congratulations Catherine!

Kimberlee Creech graduated last month with an MPH in Nutrition. For her Applied Practice Experience, she created a toolkit to train individuals in low-resource settings to assess childhood malnutrition using anthropometric measurements, which was successfully piloted in Uganda last year. She valued her work with USU and the iHelp team during this project and appreciated the doors the program opened toward teaching. Kimberlee has begun working as assistant director of the USU DPD Verification Statement program and just began work as an adjunct lecturer.
