Preston May Pulls Off the Hat Trick, Leads All Three Passing Categories in the Coalfields
All statistics are compiled from reports submitted before 12 p.m. (noon) each Wednesday. Reports received after that cutoff are not included in that week’s update.
Tug Valley’s Preston May has pulled off a passing hat trick.
The Panthers quarterback sits atop all three passing categories in D&D Sports Network’s latest 2026 Statistical Leaders in the Coalfields update, leading the way in completions, passing yards and touchdown passes.
May has completed 115 passes for 1,848 yards and 22 touchdowns, putting him at the head of a talented group of quarterbacks from across Eastern Kentucky and Southern West Virginia. His impact stretches well beyond the pocket, too. May has rushed for 797 yards and 14 touchdowns, bringing his combined passing and rushing production to 2,645 yards and 36 touchdowns.
That is a whole lot of offense coming out of Tug Valley.
May’s favorite target has a statistical sweep of his own within reach. Cameron Slone leads the Coalfields in receptions with 58 and receiving yards with an even 1,000. Slone also ranks second in touchdown catches with 12, giving the Panthers the leaders in five of the six passing and receiving categories.
Estill County’s Hunter Bingham holds the top spot in receiving touchdowns with 14. Bingham also ranks fourth in receptions with 39 and third in receiving yards with 717, making him one of the most productive receivers in the region.
The quarterback chase behind May features plenty of firepower. Paintsville’s Parker Helton ranks second in passing yards with 1,492, followed by Logan’s Greg Williams with 1,422 and Mingo Central’s Jamere Knuckles with 1,400. Knuckles is second in touchdown passes with 18, while Estill County’s Brody Mainous follows with 17.
Betsy Layne’s Eli Jarrell ranks second in completions with 99, just ahead of Chapmanville’s Dakota Dalton with 98. Perry Central’s Parker Maggard follows with 92, while Raceland’s Jacob Waller rounds out the top five with 87. Logan’s Greg Williams and Paintsville’s Parker Helton are tied for sixth with 85, followed by Pikeville’s JJ Reynolds with 75, Mingo Central’s Jamere Knuckles with 72 and Estill County’s Brody Mainous with 70.
On the ground, Breathitt County’s Eli Thomas is setting the pace in both major rushing categories. Thomas leads with 1,367 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns, giving the Bobcats a standout at the top of the rushing leaderboard.
East Ridge’s Talon Jordan is second in rushing yards with 1,117, while Prestonsburg’s AJ Johnson is close behind with 1,103. Magoffin County’s Blake Wireman has 928 yards, followed by Leslie County’s Tanner Sizemore with 880 and Floyd Central’s Ethan Curry with 843.
Johnson and Mainous are tied for second in rushing touchdowns with 19 apiece. Mainous’ 17 touchdown passes and 19 rushing scores give the Estill County standout 36 combined passing and rushing touchdowns. May, Jordan and Fleming County’s Jett Martin are tied with 14 rushing touchdowns each.
The receiving race also features a strong showing from Paintsville’s Anderson Lauffer, who ranks second in receiving yards with 765 and third in catches with 41. Betsy Layne’s Lincoln Hamilton is second in receptions with 45, while Mingo Central’s Terrindez Bryant ranks fourth in receiving yards with 620.
Defensively, Estill County’s Peyton Brumbaugh leads the tackle standings with 105. Mingo Central’s Taegan Hackney follows with 94, and Ashland’s Brody Simpkins ranks third with 90. Pikeville’s Jeremiah Anderson and Johnson Central’s Dylan Lemaster are tied with 86, just ahead of Prestonsburg’s Crayson Lafferty with 85.
The kicking categories have leaders making their mark as well. Raceland’s Seth Morris leads in extra-point kicks made with 31, one ahead of Ashland’s Max McAlister. McAlister leads the field-goal standings with seven, followed by Bath County’s Dryden Wells with five and Pikeville’s Steven Gonzalez-Santes with four.
From Thomas powering the ground game to Slone reaching the 1,000-yard receiving mark and Brumbaugh topping 100 tackles, the Coalfields have no shortage of standout performances.
But the passing spotlight belongs to Preston May: three categories, three No. 1 spots and a hat trick at the top of the leaderboard.
