Logan High School students recently took part in the IT STEM Hackathon hosted by Bridgerland Technical College, joining peers from high schools across the Logan, Cache, and Box Elder school districts. The event brought students together for a full day of hands-on technology challenges focused on problem-solving, teamwork, and cybersecurity.

The IT STEM Academy at Bridgerland gives high school students a chance to explore information technology in a more in-depth way, with classes that cover topics like computer hardware, networking, and cybersecurity. Students gain practical, real-world experience and can begin working toward industry-recognized IT certifications while still in high school.

As part of the Hackathon, teams competed in three main activities: a Capture the Flag cybersecurity challenge, a computer-building competition inspired by “The Great British Baking Show,” and a cybersecurity-themed breakout room where students had to solve timed puzzles using both technical skills and critical thinking. All teams were mixed so students from different schools worked side by side.

The top overall team included Logan High students Benjamin McMurray, Forrest MacMurdo, and Easton McEwan, who collaborated with students from Bear River High and Sky View High. Together, they earned the highest score across all three events and were recognized for their strong communication, leadership, and creative approaches to each challenge.

Don't miss Logan High's production of Our Town. Thornton Wilder's Our Town explores the ordinary lives of residents in the fictional town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, focusing on the Gibbs and Webb families and their children, George and Emily. The play follows the lives of these townspeople from childhood to marriage, and everything in between, highlighting themes of love, community and the passage of time. Through a minimalist stage and the Stage Manager's narration, Wilder emphasizes the importance of appreciating everyday moments.
