What a joy to visit Ms. Edwards first-grade classroom at Omar Elementary today!

When we walked in, students were practicing sounds, blending words, and identifying rhymes and digraphs. Ms. Edwards then smoothly transitioned into a decodable reader, giving her students the opportunity to apply the skills they had just practiced. They also recalled details from yesterday’s story and used the table of contents to find their next reading selection.

Even finding the right page became a learning opportunity! As students turned to page 70, she incorporated math by reviewing tens and ones, counting by tens, and asking which numbers came before and after 70. Such a wonderful example of making meaningful connections throughout a lesson!

What stood out most was her encouragement and the students’ eagerness to participate. They were answering questions, celebrating their learning, and helping their classmates, all in a classroom filled with warmth and enthusiasm.

Thank you, Ms. Edwards, for welcoming us into your classroom and for the care and intention you bring to your teaching. It was a pleasure to watch these young learners in action! 💛📖

Parent Teacher Conference

Logan County Schools is grateful to be among the recipients of generous support from the "Keep the Ball Rolling" event held yesterday in Beckley. Each Logan County school received a $1,500 donation that will be used to help students with essential needs throughout the school year, including coats, shoes, clothing, and other necessities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Shawn Ball and L&S Toyota, the Pack Family Foundation, and the Wing 2 Wing Foundation, founded by Marshall University President Brad Smith, for their generosity and commitment to supporting children across our region. We also thank Senator Jim Justice and Cathy Justice for their continued support through the "Communities In Schools" program.

✨Shout-out to our amazing Title I Teachers✨

Today, our Title I teachers spent the day learning to use the Sonday System to support reading interventions. They learned together, shared ideas, and strengthened their instructional practices with one goal in mind: helping every student become a stronger reader.

We appreciate their commitment to learning and to the students they serve! ❤️📚👏

Learning is SWEET in Pre-K! 🍎🥧

Mrs. Keffer’s and Mrs. Hall’s Pre-K class at South Man Elementary wrapped up their apple-themed learning this week with a delicious hands-on experience—making their very own mini apple pies!

After reading How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World, students became little bakers as they pressed their dough, scooped apple filling, added the top crust, and watched their creations transform as they baked.

This fun (and wonderfully messy! ❤️) activity incorporated multiple WV Pre-K learning standards as students practiced sequencing and following multi-step directions, counting and measuring, fine-motor skills, listening comprehension, vocabulary, making observations, and exploring how ingredients change during the cooking process. They also practiced important social-emotional skills such as taking turns, patience, independence, and working together.

At South Man Elementary, some of the best learning happens when little hands are busy! 🍎❤️ Our Pre-K students had a wonderful time learning, creating, and making sweet memories together.

Way to go, little bakers! 🥧👏
