CAS grad Diane Wagner interned with the Utah Reclamation Mitigation and Conservation Commission in the summer of 2022. While interning, she helped improve the instream habitat of the Lower Diamond Fork River and investigated the river channel change from 2011 to 2018. Fascinating!

Dr. Rob Davies, a CAS faculty member, is featured in a project titled ‘The Crossroads Project | Rising Tide’. This project is a collaborative Art and Science performance weaving together poetic science, compelling imagery, and powerful music to tell the story of the Biosphere. This project was created at Utah State University and has been performed more than 30 times across the nation, as well as Mexico and Brazil.

With Utah experiencing spring temperatures, we have the opportunity to see more of Utah's natural bird population. However, according to Utah's Audubon Society, Utah's birds may lose more than half of their current range (geographic area where they live) because of changing climate conditions and habitat reductions.

Emily Fletcher is a CAS grad who studied risk perceptions of negative emissions technology and climate change mitigation (a bit of a mouthful :) In other words, Emily is interested in how people view technology and policies that relate to climate change. Emily joined the CAS program in the Fall of 2020 and was placed in a sub-group of three. Their research focused on the dessication of the Great Salt Lake and addressed the question, "Can past hydroclimate variability explain GSL levels and is there a relationship between lake levels and air quality issues?" Emily and her sub-group have completed their research and are currently trying to publish their work.

Dr. Patrick Belmont, a member of the CAS faculty, has a lab that studies a wide range of topics within the fields of hydrology, geomorphology, and climate adaptation science. These topics include:
• Hydrologic modeling and development of watershed water budgets
• Modeling, measurement and analysis of landscape erosion, sediment transport, and deposition
• Development of sediment budgets
• Geochemical ‘sediment fingerprinting’ and analysis of cosmogenic nuclides to study Earth-surface processes and long-term erosion rates
• Topographic analysis for feature extraction, geomorphic change detection and watershed classification
• Sediment as a water quality metric in streams and rivers
