"Just One Guy"... That Cannot Be Ignored 08/29/2025

I wrote a blog five years ago about a particular New York restauranteur who is a fan of Italian tennis players and can be seen in attendance annually at the US Open. His name is Giovanni Bartocci. Since this blog was written, he has reopened his restaurant, Via Della Pace, in New York's East Village.

When I attended the US Open in 2022, I was fortunate enough to dine at the restaurant and meet Mr. Bartocci. He is an inspiration for me, and his restaurant is the best!

I was watching today's US Open match between 24-year-old American, Jenson Brooksby and 23-year-old Italian, Flavio Cobolli. Cobolli won in a 5th set tiebreaker. Giovanni Bartocci could be seen in Cobolli's "Friends Box", cheering fervently.

I was saddened early this morning to hear of Gene Hackman's passing. Among his many roles was that of basketball coach, Norman Dale, in the movie "Hoosiers", one of my all-time favorites. His role is proof that it's OK to be unconventional, and sometimes it even works. Bobby Plump, the real-life person that the character, Jimmy Chitwood is based upon, has said about the movie, "It's a reminder that anything is possible, no matter where you come from".
