Well, that's a wrap for my day PHI inspections at the California State Fair for 2025!
The books said we had 160+ birds entered and 44+ exhibitors coming in for today, but we didn't have quite that many day-of.
Many thanks to my amazing clerk, Becky, and Garrett Pedretti, Show Superintendent for being so organized and having everything we needed ❤️

Moving on up to the big brooder! Fresh shavings and more space for the win!
But something more vaulable here...is how the chicks behave.
More often than not, this is the perfect time to identify the males from the females, as they interact with one another. What do you notice happening in the video?
I spy with my little eye a couple of future roosters in the mix....
These are some mixed multi-purpose breeds I hatched for the laying yard, for more eggs next season.

AB928 Update!
Time To Make Two Calls - We Need Your Help!

Just posted on the Oppose 928 page:

"Buffy Wicks (916-319-2014) and Robert Rivas (916-319-2029) are the two people who have the future of this bill in their hands".

It's URGENT we reach out to them TODAY and say you're opposed to AB928 and ask them to "hold the bill."

They'll be making the decision to kill it or move it forward by Monday. It's ok if you talk to their staff, it's the number of calls they get that'll make a huge difference. Buffy is the Appropriations Committee Chair and Robert is the Speaker of the Assembly.

In California, we are dealing with a bill that could essentially put an end to the poultry fancy in this state, and as well as poultry shows and exhibitors. It could also put an end to many rural backyard chickenkeeping and those who hatch chicks for both their own use and for others.

While the bill aims to end criminal activities like cockfighting (which we are all against), it instead will create criminals out of those who have what the government deams to be "too many roosters" based on absure requirements such as combs and housing/coops. The bill is poorly written. And you need to let your representatives know.
