Meet the newest members of Freedom Farm โ€” Patty, Poppy, Nugget, and Virginia!

At 10 weeks old, theyโ€™re still too young to lay eggs, but theyโ€™ve already got big personalities and even bigger opinions about everything. They keep us laughing daily โ€” whether theyโ€™re chasing bugs, arguing over the best roosting spot, or giving us a good scolding when weโ€™re late with treats.

We canโ€™t wait to watch them grow into their full, feathery selves (and eventually spoil us with fresh eggs). For now, weโ€™re just enjoying the chaos and the comedy they bring to farm life.

Stewardship doesnโ€™t always look serious โ€” sometimes it looks like four ridiculous chickens keeping your heart light. ๐Ÿ”

We knew we wanted kitties for mouse control, what we didnโ€™t know is how much weโ€™d fall in love with them. They all have different personalities, but the common thread runs deep. They love people and people love them.

Let me introduce you to each of our kitties, alive and in spirit.

๐…๐š๐ข๐ญ๐ก - ๐Œ๐ฒ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐Š๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ฒ
Faith stole my heart when we first got her. Sheโ€™d look up at me with the most beautiful blue eyes and meow. Now she rides around on my shoulder while Iโ€™m doing chores and rolls over on her back for belly rubs. I always say that sheโ€™s my Mabel in kitty form.

๐๐จ๐ง๐ง๐ข๐ž - ๐’๐ฉ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ซโ€™๐ฌ ๐ค๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ฒ
Bonnie is Faithโ€™s sister and is more of an introverted kitty. While she loves to be pet and held by Spencer, she tends to keep to herself when others are around. However, she is super sweet and a great mouser!

AJ is not your typical โ€œorange cat.โ€ He is very sweet, very chill, very outgoing. He loves cuddles and chirps at us when he wants to be pet or held. AJ is also the one that leaves most of the presents for us.

Tilly lived a short, but vibrant life. Unfortunately she unexpectedly passed from what the vet diagnosed as FIP. Tilly had the most beautiful eyes that felt like she was looking into your soul. Forever missed and loved.

Reba is a spicy girl. She was the one who broke down the kitty door because she was determined to get pregnant. She made the best Mom! She would love to live in the house, but also loves to โ€œcat aroundโ€ all night.

Tina looked and acted just like her Mom. She was best friends with her brother and a great coaching partner. She loved to be in the arena with me and the clients. We unexpectedly lost Tina in January and it hit Hank and I pretty hard. Forever missed and loved.

Hank was my kitty boy. He loved attention, playing with Tina, and to tell me all about his day. I have so many videos of him โ€œyellingโ€ at me that I will cherish forever. We unexpectedly lost Hank in June. Forever missed and loved.

๐€๐ฅ๐ข - ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐‹๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ž ๐Œ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ
Ali came to us after Tina passed to be Hankโ€™s new adventure buddy. She is sweet and feisty and perfect. Even though I got her for Hank, I think God knew that it was going to be me that actually needed her to help heal my heart.

Each of these kitties hold a piece of our hearts. We love and care for them with deep intention. Thatโ€™s what it means to care for every creature entrusted to us. ๐Ÿพ

Even though now in Spirit, Mabel is with us and always will be. She is my soul dog. My guiding light. Forever a large piece of my heart.

I rescued Denver in 2018. I saw her posted on Facebook, but wasnโ€™t able to connect with the girl selling her, and I thought โ€œwell, I guess she wasnโ€™t meant to be with me.โ€ Then I saw a brindle dog posted on a rescueโ€™s Facebook and reached out. When I went to meet her, as she was sitting in my lap, I said โ€œdid she happen to be posted by a different girl?โ€ They said yes! I couldnโ€™t believe Iโ€™d reached out about the same dog twice without even knowing it. The foster said, โ€œThis is meant to be. Sheโ€™s never acted like this with someone. Want to take her home?โ€ That day Denver became part of our family. She loves people, sheโ€™s the best dog when Iโ€™m experiencing grief, she loves adventures, and she loves to cuddle. We canโ€™t imagine life without her.

Rolo and Spencer came as a package deal, so when we started dating in 2020, she joined the family. While Rolo and I have a love-hate relationship, my youth clients absolutely adore her. She gives them love, cuddles, and the comfort of a small dog on their lap.

๐‚๐จ๐๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐ฒ โ€” ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐จ๐ง๐ž ๐Œ๐š๐›๐ž๐ฅ ๐ฌ๐ž๐ง๐ญ
Cody came to us in May of 2025 as a short-term โ€œdog sittingโ€ opportunity. My heart was in shambles after Mabel passed, and I remember telling my mom on a Monday, โ€œI would take Cody in a heartbeat.โ€ Two days later she called: โ€œWe have a situation, and Cody needs a home for a bit, would you take him?โ€ Absolutely! (Thank God Spencer is always on board for my wild ideas). After a couple of days I fell in love, thinking, ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ธ ๐˜ข๐˜ฎ ๐˜ ๐˜จ๐˜ฐ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ ๐˜จ๐˜ช๐˜ท๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฉ๐˜ช๐˜ฎ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ฌ? Iโ€™d say to Mabel, โ€œYou brought him to me, you figure this out!โ€ It was decided Cody would stay with us for good. Heโ€™s now a certified service dog, part of the C.A.R.E. team for Custom Canines Service Dog Academy, and comes with me to client meetings to provide support. He loves big, plays hard, and brings joy to everyone he meets. We thank Mabel daily for sending us Cody.

Caring for animals is our calling ๐Ÿพ

The Healing Herd has had our hearts (and probably yours too), but theyโ€™re not the only ones who call Freedom Farm home.

Over the next few days weโ€™ll introduce you to the rest of the crew: the dogs who greet us at the door with joy that never runs out, the cats who steal the hearts of all who visit Freedom Farm, and the chickens who keep us laughing.

Every creature here is tended to with the same care and intention; because stewardship doesnโ€™t stop at the horses.

On my walk this morning I noticed so many spider webs in the squares of the fence. Some looked messy, some unfinished, some perfect, yet all of them have so much intricate detail. Like every strand was exactly how it needed to be to hold the web together. And that got me thinking.

Sometimes life looks messy or unfinished, but every single event is exactly as it needed to be. Every strand intricately woven together to make my life what it is today. Is it completely perfect? No. Are parts of it? Absolutely.

Those webs werenโ€™t waiting to be finished before they did their job. The unfinished ones still caught the morning light. The messy ones still held their shape in the wind. They were already doing exactly what they were made to do, mid-strand, mid-story.

Maybe thatโ€™s permission. To stop waiting for the โ€œsomeday when itโ€™s all figured outโ€ version of my life, and start trusting the version thatโ€™s here now, the webs and gaps and all.

Because the spider doesnโ€™t tear down an imperfect web and start over. She just keeps weaving. Adding a strand where itโ€™s needed. Trusting the ones already in place.

So today, Iโ€™m not asking my life to be perfect. Iโ€™m asking myself to keep weaving and trusting that every strand, even the wobbly ones, is exactly whatโ€™s holding the whole thing together.

I am still reflecting on last nightโ€™s Finding Freedom Under the Full Moon event that Candice and I hosted and am in awe.

There was so much beauty in all of it. The women who showed up, the connections that formed, the peace that settled in, the release that moved through, and the gratitude that lingered after.

We are so blessed to be able to share the land and animals God has given us.
