Today was a special day in Mrs. St.Clair’s second-grade classroom at Live Oak Elementary! They had the honor of welcoming Lodi City Council Member Lisa Craig Hensley as she joined us to celebrate Read Across America and inspire our young readers.
Mrs. Craig Hensley shared her love of reading and encouraged my students to become lifelong learners. She emphasized how reading enriches our minds, sparks creativity, and helps us understand the world around us. She also encouraged students to visit the Lodi Public Library and explore the endless possibilities that books offer!
To make the day even more special, she read Goldilocks and the Three Engineers—a fun and inventive twist on a classic tale. In this version, Goldilocks is an inventor with inventor’s block, and the Bear family stumbles upon a bungalow filled with clever inventions!
A huge thank you to Mrs. Craig Hensley for taking the time to promote the power of reading and inspire our students! Your visit made a lasting impact, and we appreciate your dedication to literacy in our community.

Today, Splash, the beloved mascot of the Stockton Ports, made a special visit to fire up students about the power of reading! He brought along an exciting message—Baseball by the Books, a literacy campaign designed to knock low reading rates out of the park in San Joaquin County.
Through this program, students step up to the plate and take on the challenge of reading, and in return, they score a voucher for two free tickets to their school’s selected Ports game.
It’s a win-win—more books, more fun, and a chance to cheer on the Ports live at the ballpark.Let’s turn the page and make reading a grand slam!
Thank you our wonderful librarian, Mrs. Amy for leading Baseball by the Books.

Amy, por liderar Baseball by the Books.

A heartfelt thank you to Lodi Unified School District board member Mr. Joe Nava for reading “Tomás and the Library Lady” to Mrs St Clair’s second grade students. This beautiful children’s book, based on the true story of Tomás Rivera, highlights the transformative power of libraries and the love of reading.
The story follows Tomás, the son of migrant workers, who spends his summers traveling from Texas to Iowa for the harvest season. Though he cherishes the folktales his grandfather shares, he longs for more stories. A kind librarian introduces him to the world of books, forever shaping his future as an author and educator.
We are also grateful to Mr. Nava for sharing his own memories of working in the fields with his family, making this story even more meaningful for our students. His personal connection brought the book to life, reminding us all of the power of education, perseverance, and storytelling.
