Cubihatcha Outdoor Education Center

Cubihatcha Outdoor Education Center The Cubihatcha Outdoor Education Center is operated by the Henry County Water Authority.

A few years back, local leaders aimed to initiate an outreach program for the community's benefit. Inspiration was drawn from neighboring counties, and the potential of the Henry County Water Authority property located in Locust Grove as an outdoor education center was realized. The center's location amidst three reservoirs and breathtaking surroundings makes it an ideal spot. Our proficient and e

nthusiastic naturalists are always ready to share their knowledge and lend a helping hand. At Cubihatcha, we place great value on the youth of our county and its neighboring areas. It gives us immense pleasure to ignite a child's interest in nature and offer them an opportunity to experience it up-close, virtually every day in Henry County.

Cubihatcha Outdoor Education Center had the wonderful opportunity this Monday, August 3rd, to visit the Henry County Bear Creek Senior Center in celebration of National Georgia Day!

We had the privilege of sharing information about Georgia’s native wildlife and the important role they play in our ecosystems, while also discussing the many proactive steps Henry County Water Authority is taking to protect our wildlife and preserve our valuable drinking water resources.

We are always grateful for opportunities to connect with our community, share knowledge, and promote environmental stewardship right here in Henry County!

Thank you to the Bear Creek Senior Center for having us!

Check This Out!

Our interns at Cubihatcha Outdoor Education Center have been busy as bees lately!

Last week, they had the opportunity to learn all about honeybees, the important role they play, and the fascinating process of how honey is made. They even got hands-on experience by uncapping the honeycomb, removing the wax, and, of course, sampling some fresh honey straight from the comb!

Once the honeycomb was uncapped, it was placed into a specialized honey extractor, where the honey spins out of the comb, it's always amazing to watch!

Today was the sweetest part of it all! Each intern bottled their very own jar of fresh, delicious honey to take home. What a fun and memorable way to learn about one of nature's hardest-working pollinators!

For those who may not know, the Henry County Water Authority has partnered with Southern Crescent to offer an outstanding Summer Internship Program. This program gives local high school students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while learning about the many career paths available within the Authority.

Yesterday, several of our interns had the unique opportunity to work alongside Georgia DNR biologists and RLM staff to help capture and band 91 Canada geese. Wildlife management is an important part of HCWA’s mission, as the Authority manages significant land and water resources throughout Henry County.

Experiences like these provide valuable real-world learning opportunities while helping students explore future career interests and develop a deeper appreciation for environmental stewardship.
