We got some great news from our friends at the White Oak Library District (Lockport Branch) where a new record of more than 600 kids participated in their Summer Reading Challenge!

Here are some of our Bulldogs from Walsh School who completed the challenge. We love partnering with community organizations to grow a love of learning and reading!

Congratulations to Oak Prairie Assistant Principal! Mr. Scott Nyssen will be retiring after this school year. As his last first day just passed, he reflects on his time in District 92, “After 24 years at Oak Prairie, I've come full circle and now get to work with the children of many of my former students. It feels like my extended family.”

Additionally, Scott has lived in the district for more than 20 years and his daughter attended D92 schools before graduating from Lockport Township High School this past year. Scott just dropped her off to college last week!

Special Education Teacher Kim Boyd will be retiring after the 2026-27 school year. We asked what she was excited about for her last first day and she said, “I look forward to helping the students learn and grow one last time. First days are always a mix of emotions and I think this one will mostly be bittersweet!”

She says that she plans for her retirement to look like the second photo.

After the 2026-27 school year, Linda Oberhaus will be retiring after her time as a special education teacher at Ludwig.

When asked about the upcoming school year she shared, “I'm excited to START my last year! I CANNOT WAIT!”

Oak Prairie has been fortunate to have Kyle Jacobson as a STEM and Technology teacher. He will be retiring after this school year.

When asked what he was most excited about for his last first day, he shared: “I’m excited that it is the last first day of my teaching career, however it’s just one day closer to working and living for my family.”

His plans for retirement include helping his parents and in-laws as well as continue to improve and build out his property to host small events. He is most excited to spend a lot more time with his family and friends.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 26 is an early dismissal day. Ludwig School and Oak Prairie Junior High will be released at 1:50 p.m. and Walsh and Reed Schools will be released at 2:50 p.m.
