What if a painting could tell us what a forest looked like hundreds of years ago? 🎨🌲

Lock Haven senior Ava Tomko is blending art and science through undergraduate research, studying historic landscape paintings to uncover clues about past forest conditions.

The biology-natural history major surveyed paintings at the Carnegie Museum of Art, looking at everything from tree species and size to dead wood, understory conditions and signs of human activity.

For Ava, it’s a chance to bring two of her interests together while gaining hands-on research experience with faculty mentor Dr. Heather Bechtold.

From clinical immersion to career-ready. 🦅👏

Lock Haven athletic training student Tyler Jannone took his skills to Saint Francis University, where he gained hands-on experience working with Division I men’s basketball, track and field, football and women’s soccer.

Along the way, he treated injuries, developed rehabilitation programs, earned his strength coach certification and passed the Board of Certification Exam.

And now? He’s officially joined Saint Francis as a staff athletic trainer.

From The Haven to the high seas. 🦅⚓️

Lock Haven alumnus Lt. Caleb Smith ’19 once walked the halls of Akeley as a criminal justice student. Today, he’s navigating the USS Omaha as a U.S. Navy ship’s navigator.

Inspired by family history, shaped by his time at The Haven and now serving his country at sea, Caleb’s journey is proof that you don’t have to have it all figured out to end up somewhere incredible.

Once a Bald Eagle, always a Bald Eagle. ❤️

Not your average day at The Haven. 🚁

A Pennsylvania State Police helicopter touched down on the Lock Haven campus, giving students, faculty, staff and community members an up-close look at the role aviation plays in law enforcement and public safety across Pennsylvania.

Attendees had the opportunity to meet PSP pilot Cpl. Kyle Schaad, explore the aircraft, ask questions and learn more about the capabilities of the PSP Aviation Patrol Unit.

A pretty incredible example of hands-on learning, community connection and the experiences our students help bring to The Haven! 🚁🦅
