Learning by Doing: Preparing the Next Generation of Sport Management Leaders
At the Zeigler College of Business, we believe some of the most valuable lessons happen beyond the classroom. Experiential learning gives our students the opportunity to apply what they learn, develop professionally, and discover the impact they can make in their chosen careers.
Today, I am proud to recognize **Paula Sigley**, one of our outstanding Sport Management students, who is completing an internship with In The Net Sports Complex. Working under the supervision of Brad Frye in the Operations Department, Paula is helping support tournament operations, prepare for upcoming competitions, and assist with the day-to-day management of one of the region's premier sports complexes.
Paula describes her experience best:
"I am enjoying jumping right into the action here at the complex and can't wait to be a field director for many of our upcoming tournaments this summer!"
Her excitement reflects the confidence that comes from meaningful, hands-on learning.
Having previously served as a collegiate athletic administrator, I know that every successful sporting event depends on talented professionals working behind the scenes. From operations and event management to facilities, marketing, and logistics, these professionals create the experiences that athletes, coaches, families, and fans remember long after the final whistle.
Paula's internship is an excellent example of how Commonwealth University's Sport Management program prepares students for those important leadership roles. By combining rigorous academics with real-world experience, our graduates leave prepared to contribute immediately and lead confidently throughout their careers.
