Valentine Miller Residence, 415 N Franklin, Kirksville Missouri, 1897. Valentine & Margaret (Class) Miller’s impressive home, remodeled in 1892, was definitely good advertising for V Miller Lumber, his retail lumber yard & contracting business. Dee Riley bought the house in 1928 and remodeled it again to accommodate his residence and the Dee Riley Funeral Home.

Haunted Hotels.

The Copper Queen Hotel is a historic hotel located in Bisbee, Arizona. Holding the distinction of being Arizona's longest continuously operated hotel, the Copper Queen was constructed from 1898 to 1902 by the Phelps Dodge Corporation to serve as lodging for investors and dignitaries visiting its nearby copper mine. The Copper Queen is allegedly haunted and has been featured on at least two paranormal investigation shows; the 3rd season of Ghost Hunters and the 6th season of Ghost Adventures. Perhaps the most famous ghost, is that of a woman in her thirties by the name of Julia Lowell. It's said that she was a pr******te and she used the hotel for entertaining her clients. She fell in love with one of the clients who did not share the same feelings, which resulted in Julia taking her own life at the hotel. Guests and staff at the hotel say that they feel her presence on the second and third floors of the west side of the building. Male staff and guests have reported hearing a female voice whispering in their ear. Others have also reported seeing her dancing at the foot of the stairs. The spirit of Billy, a young 8 or 9 year old boy, likes to play on the third floor and the dining room of the hotel. He likes to hide various items belonging to the guests, who stay in the hotel rooms, especially on the third floor. Guests can also hear him crying when they run the water in the bath tub.

The Emlen Physick Mansion in Cape May, New Jersey. Probably one of the most active haunted houses in the United States. Since the last family member died in 1935, no one has been able to live in the house for more than a few months. The mansion has since been restored and, luckily for lovers of the paranormal, is now open year around as a museum. The dead, definitely do not rest at the Physick Estate. :-)

Female homesteaders, the Chrisman sisters, stand on their claim at the Goheen settlement of Lieban Creek in Nebraska’s Custer County, in this Solomon D. Butcher photograph. Shown from left are Hattie, Lizzie, Lutie and Jennie Ruth; only the youngest, Jennie Ruth, came of age too late to own a homestead near her family.
