New Superintendent Named for LPS
Good Evening, LPS Staff, Families and Students,
It is with tremendous excitement that we share that the Board of Education unanimously selected the next Superintendent of Livonia Public Schools during this evening's meeting.
Beginning January 1, 2027, Mr. Bill Green will assume this important leadership role. The Board of Education extends its sincere congratulations to Mr. Green on an outstanding application, exceptional performance task, and successful interview process.
We look forward to working alongside Mr. Green with the same spirit of collaboration, professionalism, respect, and shared commitment that has defined our highly successful partnership with Superintendent Andrea Oquist over the past 11 years.
As announced in March, Mrs. Oquist will retire from Livonia Public Schools on December 31, 2026. We are deeply grateful for her unwavering dedication to our students, staff, and families throughout her more than 36 years of service to LPS.
Over the coming months, she will continue to lead the district while also working closely with our incoming superintendent to ensure a thoughtful and seamless leadership transition.
Mr. Green, an LPS alumnus and current district resident, began his career with Livonia Public Schools in 1995 as a classroom teacher at Marshall, Cooper, and Buchanan elementary schools.
In 2005, he began serving as principal of Garfield Elementary and then Roosevelt Elementary before joining the Superintendent's Cabinet as Director of Elementary Programs and District Services in 2020. In that role, he provided leadership for all elementary schools, programs, and staff serving students from preschool through sixth grade.
In July 2025, Mr. Green was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Operations & District Services. He currently oversees the district's Operations, Maintenance, Transportation, Food & Nutritional Services, and Information Technology departments, ensuring that the systems supporting teaching and learning operate efficiently and effectively.
We would like to thank our staff, families, and community members for their thoughtful participation throughout the superintendent search process. Your feedback helped inform the Board's work, and we are confident that we have selected the right leader to build upon the strong foundation of Livonia Public Schools and guide our district into its next chapter.
The Board also extends its sincere appreciation to the Michigan Leadership Institute for expertly guiding us through every stage of this comprehensive search process. Their partnership helped ensure a fair, thorough, and transparent process from beginning to end.
Finally, we would like to thank the internal candidates for their willingness to serve Livonia Public Schools by pursuing this position. The Board faced an exceptionally difficult decision because all of our internal candidates demonstrated outstanding leadership, deep commitment to our district, and a genuine desire to serve LPS in this important role. We are grateful for each of them and look forward to their continued contributions to the success of our students, staff, and community.
The Board is very confident that Bill Green possesses the vision, leadership, and commitment necessary to continue advancing the mission of Livonia Public Schools while building on the many strengths of our district.
Sincerely.
