The Fashion Merchandising class was introduced to the fundamentals of fashion design through hands-on activities like sketching and draping. They gained hands-on experience by pinning, folding, and shaping fabric to create simple garment designs. This process deepened their understanding of garment construction, balance, and how design concepts evolve from initial ideas to finished creations.

Our Advanced Sports Medicine students have been learning how to measure joint range of motion — an essential skill in the world of sports medicine and physical therapy! 📏✨

They studied the normal ranges for different joints and practiced using a goniometer, a specialized tool used to measure movement with precision. 👏

These hands-on skills give our LCTC students a valuable head start toward their future careers in healthcare! 🌟

We’re proud to celebrate Jen Kinast, a 2024 graduate of Stevenson High School and former LCTC Criminal Justice student, who recently completed the Oakland Community College Police Academy.

Now officially Officer Kinast, she begins the next phase of her journey with the Farmington Hills Police Department, entering a rigorous Field Training Program (FTP). The FTP helps new officers apply academy knowledge in the field, develop sound judgment, and build confidence while ensuring they meet departmental standards before patrolling independently.

Congratulations, Officer Kinast—we’re excited to see where your dedication and hard work will take you!

They spent the day exploring college opportunities, connecting with career resources, and cheering on the Tigers at Comerica Park. 🏟️

Our Sports Medicine students recently hit the road to Ann Arbor for an unforgettable day exploring the University of Michigan! Their visit kicked off with a walking tour of some of the campus’s most iconic landmarks, followed by an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Michigan Stadium—aka The Big House.

From the upper decks to the 50-yard line, students soaked in the rich history of Michigan Football, played on the field, and wrapped up their experience inside the Game Day Athletic Medicine facility—a space some of them may work in one day!

They learned a valuable lesson: you can’t always control the weather, but you can control the energy you bring—and this crew brought ALL the fun! ☀️🔥

On April 22, 2025, our Fashion Merchandising students took center stage at the Annual Charity Fashion Show held at St. Mary’s Cultural Center—showcasing their creativity, talent, and teamwork in an unforgettable evening of style and purpose.

The show benefited Seedlings Braille Books for Children, and thanks to our incredible sponsors and supporters, we raised over $1,500 for this amazing cause! 🙌📚

From concept to catwalk, students modeled outfits that demonstrated a deep understanding of fashion trends, merchandising, and presentation. The audience loved it, and the event was a true celebration of hard work and innovation in fashion.

Our Pre-Sports Medicine students recently explored just how critical clear communication and teamwork are in healthcare settings.

In a fun and eye-opening activity, one student described a picture while their partner—unable to see it or ask questions—had to draw it based solely on verbal instructions. Unsurprisingly, the results were... creative! 😅

Afterward, the “receivers” were allowed to ask questions and give feedback—and the accuracy of their drawings improved dramatically.

This activity demonstrated the power of:
✅ Active listening
✅ Constructive feedback
✅ Clear, concise communication

These are essential skills for future healthcare professionals. Great work, future athletic trainers and medical pros! 🏥💬
