The Why I coach …

The reason I coach is all because of my roots. Roots that were planted on the Harrison soccer field. Today, my High School coach - Mike Rusek and his long time assistant and brother John Rusek won their 500th game. I was part Win #1 against Bergen Tech Fall 2000 and the 3 consecutive State Titles that followed. Thanks Coach! You’re the reason to why I do what I do today.

This picture got me thinking.

What’s the most important part of youth sports?

To me, it’s more than wins and losses.

Losses sting, and certain wins are unforgettable. But when we get youth sports right, the bonds players build through a sport can last a lifetime.

My greatest victories as a coach come from seeing players remain close friends long after their playing days are over.

That’s the biggest WIN you can ask for.

Don’t get caught up in the hype!
