We are seeking a creative and outdoors-loving Teacher to join our school family!

At Chickadee Montessori we emphasize empathy, independence, community building and connection with nature. We seek to encourage resilience and healthy attachments in our students. Our school is guided by the principles of Montessori, which nurture in each child a care for self, others and their environment. As teachers we model our values of patience, honesty, accountability, respect, inclusivity and kindness.

Our teachers work together to create a nurturing, engaging classroom where every child feels safe and valued.

Applicants must be able to balance responsibilities, respond quickly and remain confident and calm in an active and bustling classroom. Teachers are expected to learn from challenges, have a growth mindset and be solution oriented.

As we are a small school, this position entails a commitment to the overall health and wellbeing of our families, with much opportunity for growth.

Teacher Responsibilities:
• Guides and ensures wellbeing of children ages 3-6 with varying physical and emotional needs and abilities
• Offers lessons, leads woods walks, circle time, projects and activities
• Builds relationships with students and families based on clear communication and respect
• Prepares and maintains a safe, clean, orderly and engaging classroom environment

Qualifications:
• Montessori Teacher Certification is encouraged but we are willing to train the right person
• Other helpful training and experience:
Early Childhood Education; child centered education such as Waldorf, Reggio-Emilia, Project-based learning and Forest Schools; earth based skills such as gardening and homesteading; degree or training in Education, Natural Sciences and Ecology, Outdoor Education, Art, Music, Language, Human Development, Counseling and therapeutic practices
• Participates in ongoing learning and professional development opportunities

Hours:
• Hiring Full and Part Time positions
• Hours of operation are 8:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday- Thursday
• School year commitment August/September-June

Compensation and Benefits:
• Wages are based on experience and training
• Paid planning hours and enrichment opportunities
• Paid school holidays
• Lots of year round time outside
• Be fed by our gardens and chickens!

Friends,

I am proud to announce that Chickadee Montessori is now open, serving children (age 3-6) and families in Livingston, Montana.

I would love for you to come and see the space we have created and to experience the beautiful property on which the school is located. Chickadee Montessori has been a dream of mine for many years. Being raised in Livingston with a mother devoted to Montessori, it is an extra special event to bring this school to life for a new generation.

Our school is dedicated to creating community through a small group experience. We focus on bringing the spirit of the child to life, by learning to truly know and understand each student. In addition to my Montessori training, I bring my degree in the Resource Conservation and experience in outdoor science instruction to the curriculum, to include natural science education and outdoor-based learning. At Chickadee we engage children in life skills such as gardening, cooking, outdoor skills and sewing. We also incorporate music and the arts into a rich Montessori environment dedicated to individualized attention and the developmental needs of each child.

Chickadee Montessori is now taking student applications and would love to share our school philosophy with you first hand. Thank you in advance for passing this along to friends and colleagues who may be interested; I hope to see you on the 14th.

Our First Day of School!

Under a sunny fall sky we started off our year together.

Today at our very first day at Chickadee Montessori, we began our adventure with the juicy goodness of apples.

First we filled our baskets, then sat under a shady tree to clean and cut them.

Next, lots of cinnamon and a trip to the cook pot and the kitchen.

The smells were deeply enriching and we were lucky to have a sweet treat ready for the afternoon.

All day I have been overflowing with joy. I realize that I will forever be filled with incredible gratitude for all the hands, hearts and minds that came together to make this vision a reality. Thank you endlessly for all your help love and support.
