Important information for Livingston Parish Schools families and students: Act 305 of the 2026 Regular Legislative Session established new penalties for ma*****na possession in school zones. These changes took effect on Aug. 1, 2026, and include increased criminal penalties.
LP Schools campuses are drug free zones. The law applies to school property, within 2,000 of school property, and on school buses.
Families and students are encouraged to review the attached information to learn more about the law and the penalties associated with violations.

DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (For Immediate Release – Aug. 31) – Livingston Parish Public School leaders will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Athletic Field House at Denham Springs High School (DSHS) at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, just prior to the football team’s first home game of the year.
The two-story 5,000-square-foot facility includes a weight room, team room, locker room, equipment storage, treatment rooms, and coaches’ office area that overlooks the weight room. The facility also includes an indoor and outdoor suite on the second floor, and each offers box seats.
“We wanted to be able to give back to the students and provide them with a facility that they could be proud of and that can benefit their development,” Denham Springs School Board Member Cecil Harris said.
The new $6.7 million field house is part of a multi-phased athletic facility improvement plan that has been underway at DSHS campus since 2021. Voters approved an extension of an existing 8.64-mill property tax in April 2021 to pay for the upgrades that included the repositioning, resurfacing and realignment of the football and soccer field, the construction of new baseball and softball complexes on the campus, a new track and field facility and practice area for the marching band, and the refurbishment of the old field house to create space for male and female athletes. Since that time, the millage has been lowered to 7.64 mills.
