AMOROSI MARTIAL ARTS HISTORY WAS MADE.

Please join us in congratulating Sensei Chris Rysz on his promotion to the rank and title of Sensei.

In the 34-year history of Amorosi Martial Arts, only eleven individuals have earned the privilege of being called “Sensei.” It is not a rank that is requested, expected, or simply awarded through time served. It is a title reserved for those who demonstrate years of unwavering dedication, leadership, character, technical proficiency, and commitment to preserving and advancing the standards of our organization.

Sensei Chris began training at Amorosi Martial Arts in 2011 at just 7 years old. He earned his Black Belt in 2016 at the age of 13 and continued his journey with the same determination and humility that have defined his path ever since.

In January of 2021, Chris committed himself to the Deshi Program, entering into a formal apprenticeship under the direct tutelage of Grandmaster Shihan Amorosi. Over the next five years, he underwent extensive written, physical, instructional, and leadership evaluations while serving our students, families, and community.

Many know Sensei Chris as an integral part behind our SenseiTional Pre-K Martial Arts Program. Through his passion, patience, and commitment to teaching, he has helped introduce countless young children to the values that define our organization: Respect, Discipline, Control, Spirit, Integrity, Modesty, Perseverance, and Strategy.

His journey has not been without adversity. Throughout his life, Chris has faced challenges including Type 1 diabetes and hearing impairment. Yet he has never allowed obstacles to define him. Instead, he has met every challenge with resilience, perseverance, and quiet determination—qualities that have made him an exceptional role model for our students.

After years of preparation, sacrifice, and service, Grandmaster Shihan Amorosi recently promoted Chris to Sensei status, making him the first individual to earn this distinction at Amorosi Martial Arts in more than fifteen years.

Today, Sensei Chris joins a very small and distinguished group whose responsibility extends far beyond teaching technique. As a Sensei, he now carries the duty of preserving our traditions, mentoring future generations, and helping guide the continued growth of Amorosi Martial Arts.

Congratulations, Sensei Chris. Your journey, commitment, and example embody what Amorosi Martial Arts represents.

Osu.

This past Saturday, Amorosi Martial Arts proudly celebrated one of our most meaningful traditions: the Black Belt Promotion Ceremony.

The day was highlighted by the promotion of Cristobal Silva to the rank of Black Belt (Yudansha), awarded by Grandmaster Shihan Amorosi after successfully completing Amorosi Martial Arts’ rigorous 6-Hour Black Belt Examination. This achievement represents years of dedication, perseverance, discipline, and personal growth. Earning a Black Belt is not the destination—it is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to leadership, service, and continued mastery of the martial arts. We congratulate our newest Yudansha and encourage all students to recognize him as Dai Sempai Cris, honoring the responsibility and example that accompanies his rank.

We also proudly recognize Mark Faynzilbert and Axel Fernandez on their promotion to Brown Belt (2nd Kyu). Through years of consistent training and their successful performance at last month’s Black Belt Examination, both students demonstrated the character, resilience, and technical excellence required to advance to this important milestone.

In total, 41 students were promoted in rank during the ceremony, each one representing countless hours of effort, focus, and determination on the dojo floor. Every promotion earned reflects not only technical progress, but growth in confidence, discipline, respect, and leadership.

A special highlight of the day was hearing from Dai Sempai Cris, Mark, and Axel as they shared reflections on their martial arts journeys and the goals they have set for themselves moving forward. Their humility, maturity, and commitment to continuous improvement embody the values we strive to develop in every Amorosi Martial Arts student. The celebration continued with impressive board-breaking and patio block-breaking demonstrations that showcased both their physical skill and mental fortitude.

The ceremony concluded with a special presentation led by Sensei Frank Schildiner (Sandan), as the students of Amorosi Martial Arts presented Grandmaster Shihan Amorosi with a commemorative sword in recognition of his lifelong dedication to teaching, mentoring, and building a martial arts system, culture, and community that has positively impacted generations of students and families.

To all 41 students who advanced in rank: congratulations. Your promotions were earned through hard work, consistency, and commitment to the process. We are proud of what you have accomplished and look forward to witnessing the next chapter of your journey.

I have trained with Grandmaster Shihan Amorosi for 25 years and I still feel amazed every time he steps into the dojo. His induction into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2025 was a deeply proud moment for all of us at Amorosi Martial Arts, and now that moment is growing into something even more meaningful.

This July he returns to Hall of Fame Weekend as a featured instructor to teach Tai Sabaki, showing others his skills at timing and control that changes a fight in an instant.

Over 55 years of daily training shaped him into a former United States Karate champion, a professional fighter who travelled around the world competing, and a bodyguard trusted by legends such as Magic Johnson and Muhammad Ali.

For 35 years Shihan has run dojos in the United States, teaching tens of thousands more than just kicking and punching, but a way of life that transforms your life. When Shihan teaches you are receiving lived experience, fierce compassion and decades of hard-earned knowledge passed down with honesty and care.

Being invited back to teach at the Hall of Fame says everything about the respect he commands. When you train with Grandmaster Shihan Amorosi, you will witness something that will move you and change your life. I am looking forward to participating in the event and supporting all martial artist alike.

BIG OSU to Grandmaster Shihan Amorosi!
