Yesterday, the Livingston FFA land judging team competed in their first contest of the year in Columbia, TN. The team placed 7th out of 21 teams and Grady Garrett was the highest scorer for Livingston with 347 points out of 400.

Livingston Academy CTE department held their annual CTSO Awards Banquet and Advisory Board Meeting tonight (May 11). FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, HOSA and TSA honored Senior students with cords and awarded exceptional students.

Highlands Economic Partnership partnered with LA CTE in providing our students and their families with an amazing dinner provided by Grade-A Catering!

Some of LA’s Seniors attended the Highlands Economic Partnership Junior/Senior career fair. Many businesses frim around the Upper Cumberland were present. Students came dressed to impress and was ready to be hired with resumes in hand.

CONGRATULATIONS KATY SMITH

We are VERY excited to share that Katy Smith was selected as the recipient of the Southeastern Branch of the Entomological Society of America's John Henry Comstock Award. Six awards are given to one graduate student from each ESA Branch to promote interest in entomology at the graduate level and to stimulate interest in attending the ESA Annual Meeting. Not only will Katy be recognized at the Branch meeting Awards Luncheon in March, but she will also be recognized at the National meeting in November. Nominees must be current ESA-SEB student members and have demonstrated excellence in their graduate program (e.g. scholarship, research, teaching, presentations, awards, and extracurricular activities). For those who don't know, this is the most prestigious award an Entomology student can receive from the national society.

Katy Smith is a Ph.D. Candidate and Veterinary Entomology Education Specialist in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at the University of Tennessee, and a Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research Fellow. Her research focuses on livestock-associated arthropod pests, particularly flies and ticks, and integrates entomology, agricultural economics, and producer-centered research to advance sustainable pest management in beef cattle systems. Drawing on her background in agricultural economics, Katy’s work emphasizes integrated pest management, surveillance innovation, and understanding producer decision-making to improve animal health, welfare, and production efficiency. Raised on a beef cattle operation in rural Tennessee, she is motivated by developing practical, evidence-based pest management solutions that support producers and strengthen animal agriculture.

Katy should probably share this award with Ferg, her faithful four-legged companion.
