“What happened in LIGO this week? Your weekly insider’s look at the work going on at the most sensitive gravitational-wave detectors in the world.

At the LIGO Livingston observatory work is going on according to plans for the installation of the new optical readout system in the output HAM6 vacuum chamber. Now the team is aligning the optical system to the main laser and checking the functionality of all suspensions and sensors.

At both observatories, Livingston and Hanford, scientists and engineers are also working to install the new, larger size, beam splitter mirrors, right at the corner of the two 4-km-long arms. The LIGO Livingston beam splitter is now hanging from the suspension, while at Hanford the preparation for the swap is in full swing, with the removal of the upper dome of the BSC2 corner vacuum chamber, to allow extracting the old beam splitter with the entire suspension and isolation table.”
