Chestnut Hill Quadrant PTO

Chestnut Hill Quadrant PTO Donlin Drive Elementary, Chestnut Hill Elementary, Chestnut Hill Middle PTO meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of each month.

All members in attendance at each meeting will be able to discuss decisions involving PTO events, fundraising programs and areas of PTO financial support. All parents and guardians are invited to attend! Each year the PTO funds field trips and bus expenses, classroom magazines, author visits, school folders and planners, plays, additional classroom supplies and more. We also provide much needed ex

tras for the school to enhance our children's overall school experience. The PTO runs fundraisers, holds family fun events like the Back-To-School Family Picnic, The Halloween Family Night, Movie Nights, Dining for Dollars (Denny's, Tully"s, etc) . It also supports programs like PAC, the yearbook, and the 5th grade graduation.

Today not only serves as an excuse to enjoy a cold beverage in the Summer heat, it helps teach children how to start, own, and operate their own small businesses. Kids learn how to create budgets, secure safe locations, and provide customer service.

Today is National S'mores Day!

Today honors North America's favorite, gooey campfire treat made of toasted marshmallows and melted chocolate sandwiched between two crunchy graham crackers.

S'more is a contraction of the phrase "some more"

The first official recipe was published in the 1927 Girl Scout handbook, Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts.

The published recipe is widely credited to a Girl Scout enthusiast named Loretta Scott Crew.

Today is National Root Beer Float Day!

Today is dedicated to the iconic combination of smooth vanilla ice cream floating in fizzy, frosted root beer.

Frank J. Wisner created the very first root beer float on August 19th 1893, in Cripple Creek, Colorado. Wisner noticed that the snow-capped peaks of Cow Mountain under the full moon looked like scoops of ice cream floating in a dark drink. He immediately mixed vanilla ice cream with Myers Avenue Red Root Beer and named it the "Black Cow Mountain". Local children later shortened it to the "Black Cow".

Today is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day!

Today honors America's most popular cookie and its creator, Ruth Graves Wakefield, who accidentally invented the treat in the 1930s at the Toll House Inn.

Ruth Wakefield ran out of baker's chocolate while making cookies and substituted chopped-up Nestle semi-sweet chocolate, expecting it to melt into the dough. Instead, the pieces held their shape, creating the first Toll House Cookie.

This month raises awareness about the critical role pediatric vision care plays in a child's classroom learning, social integration, and overall physical development.

Many childhood vision problems go undetected because kids assume everyone sees the world the way they do. Watch out for these behavioral cues:

*Frequent squinting, blinking, or eye rubbing
*Holding digital screens or books unusually close to the face
*Tilting the head or covering one eye to focus
*Losing their place while reading or avoiding close-up work
*Unexplained headaches or fatigue after finishing school tasks

Be sure to schedule an annual exam before the school year kicks off to ensure your child has the visual tools they need to succeed!
