📚 DID YOU KNOW?
Your child does NOT have to be enrolled in public school to be evaluated for an IEP!
Under IDEA Child Find, public school districts are responsible for identifying and evaluating students suspected of having disabilities — including children attending private and religious schools.

💜 HOW DO I GET MY CHILD EVALUATED?
1️⃣ Contact the appropriate public school district
Tell them your child attends a private school and you would like to request an evaluation through IDEA Child Find.
2️⃣ Make your request in writing
You can simply say:

“I am requesting a comprehensive evaluation under IDEA Child Find to determine whether my child has a disability and is eligible for special education.”

3️⃣ Explain your concerns
Share any concerns you have about your child's reading, writing, math, attention, communication, behavior, processing, learning, or other areas that may be affecting their education.

4️⃣ Complete the district's paperwork & provide consent
The district may request records or information from you and your child's school. A parent must provide consent before the initial evaluation is completed.

5️⃣ Your child is evaluated
The district will evaluate your child in the areas related to the suspected disability.

⭐ Your child can remain enrolled in private school throughout this process⭐

6️⃣ Meet to discuss the results
Once testing is completed, the evaluation team will review the results and determine whether your child meets eligibility requirements under IDEA.

💜 WHAT HAPPENS AFTER ELIGIBILITY?
If your child is found eligible and has an IEP or documented accommodations, Holy Cross Christian Academy will work with your family to follow those accommodations within our school setting.
Because Holy Cross is a private school, services provided by the public school district may be different from those available to a student enrolled in public school. However, your child does not have to leave Holy Cross for us to recognize and support their documented educational needs.

And at Holy Cross, a child does not need a formal IEP before we begin providing reasonable classroom accommodations. We believe every child learns differently, and we work to meet students where they are.

Any new students coming from public school, please make sure your child is officially withdrawn. Today is the deadline that Step Up has put in place. In order to make sure they will get funding they must not show in the public school enrollment/roster.

This is yet another incredible testament to the boundless creativity of our teachers, here is an amazing STEM integrated math and science lesson:

Today, high school science and Algebra 1 started their STEM Around the World adventure!
Today, they "visited" Brazil with fun facts, relaxing Amazon rainforest sounds to set the ambiance, and hands-on learning activities.

Algebra 1 learned about deforestation and calculated the rate of change over time using linear equations.

Biology explored biodiversity in the Amazon rainforest. Each student was assigned the role of a producer, consumer, or decomposer, then worked together to sort themselves into groups and create a food web.

Chemistry learned how medicines are made from plants found in the Amazon rainforest. Students discussed the chemical and physical properties of these plants and discovered how people make tinctures using Amazonian plants.
