RTC: Surgical Technology Program

Our Friday was buuuusy!

Surg Tech students began their day with a test on the heart, circulation, and blood. We then moved into the lab space for an interactive lecture about instrumentation cleaning during surgery and after use. Then, we finished our day identifying 40 instruments for them to study for an upcoming instrument test.

Our infamous walkthrough of the heart is back and our Surg Tech students did a fantastic job explaining how blood flows through the heart. ♥️

Just finished week 4 and our Surgical Tech students are already working on their skills for clinical. Today was scrubbing, gowning and gloving. We ensure our students master these skills prior to clinical rotations.

Tonight, our 25-26 Surgical Technology cohort finally graduated! Thank you to all their family and friends, RIVEROAK faculty and staff and everyone else in attendance tonight to celebrate this joyous occasion.

Look at this!

Our 26-27 cohort is in full swing and students have been busy these first two weeks. From learning the basics of healthcare, being introduced to surgical technology, looking at instruments and memorizing medical terminology, the fun has just begun!

Our 2025-2026 Surgical Technology students only have 20 days left until graduation and are going into their last week of clinical rotations. The group has done exceptional and we are beyond proud of their accomplishments. Help us by finding your surgical tech’s graduation photo and giving them some words of encouragement as they near the finish line.

We love to brag on our Surgical Tech students because we know how awesome they are! But, don’t just listen to us.. take a look at what their preceptors have to say too. These students have been ROCKING clinicals since their first day.

They are exhausted but they are almost done! Find your Surg Tech, tag them in their preceptor evaluation and leave them some words of encouragement as well. Words of encouragement help us keep going.

RIVEROAK Technical College’s Surgical Technology program prepares students for a fast-paced career assisting surgeons and operating room teams. This program is Pell Grant eligible for those who qualify. Students receive hands-on clinical training and learn sterile techniques, surgical procedures, and patient safety.
